- Abstract:
- In the fifth generation of mobile networks there is a move to replace hardware with software. Meaning that instead of buying dedicated hardware for mobile networks, we only need some general-purpose hardware and will run virtualized network functions on top of that using software. Besides, in the past few years there has been a handful of great opensource cloud management tools that facilitates management of infrastructure and has accelerated this move towards softwarization. Some of these include ONAP, Openstack and Kubernetes. These tools help network engineers to sofwarize functionalities that where previously run on dedicated hardware and manage them automatically. In this project we deployed a network service orchestrator, ONAP, on top of Kubernetes. ONAP can create and manage different network services and their lifecycle. We used ONAP to deploy an LTE network service on two clouds which were managed by Openstack and connected them to each other. The purpose of this was to get familiar with ONAP and how it works to use its more advanced features to create and manage complex network services. The LTE service is based on OAI (Open Air Interface) platform which consists of two virtual machines. We deployed each machine on a separate cloud and connected to each other
