- Abstract:
- According to the World Health Organization, in 2018 nearly 21,000 people lost their lives in road accidents in Iran. According to a report published by the organization, the fifth leading cause of death in Iran among all age groups is death due to road accidents. This imposes huge economic and social costs on the country every year. According to UNICEF, the cost to the Iranian economy caused by traffic accidents is more than 5% of the country's GDP. The human factor is known as the most important factor involved in the accident. According to existing theories and studies, one of the effective reasons for committing a driving offense as a high-risk behavior is a person's attitude. Therefore, a positive effect on people's attitudes can be considered as a deterrent to traffic violations. In this study, the public veiw towards the efficiency of traffic police in detecting and identifying traffic violations is studied and evaluated. Structural equation modeling has also been used to identify the factors affecting this attitude. For modeling, information about a survey containing 548 questionnaires was used. The results show that the demographic variables, including age and education, the attitude towards the actions taken by the police to reduce traffic violations (especially speeding and unauthorized parking), the attitude towards the use of the private sector in the field of reporting traffic violations and the use of technology, directly and indirectly, affect the attitude formed in the public mind about the efficiency of the traffic police. Given the positive or negative relationship of each of the variables with the public view of the traffic police efficiency, by weakening or strengthening any of the influential factors, a positive attitude towards the detection of violations by the traffic police can be created in individuals, which leads to prevention of violations
