Probabilistic Modeling of the Repair Time and Cost of the Structural Components of Earthquake-damaged Buildings

  8. This study aims to investigate the cost and time uncertainty of the seismic repair process of structural elements in earthquake damaged buildings in Iran. In order to identify the most important type of structural system in the country, using the method of analytic hierarchy process (AHP), 39 activists in the field of construction were interviewed. Based on the results, in buildings with reinforced concrete materials, concrete moment frames and in buildings with steel materials, steel moment frames and braced steel braced frames are the most important structural systems. By selecting the structural component of lateral load-bearing in each of the mentioned structural systems and considering the levels of possible damage caused by an earthquake, a seismic repair process has been proposed for them, according to literature, including FEMA P58. Each seismic repair process involves several activities to restore the structural component to its pre-earthquake state. The cost and time required for each activity are collected using expert judgment. Then, using discrete event simulation (DES), a simulation model is presented for each process to estimate the seismic repair cost and time of each structural component. Comparison of the obtained results shows that in order to estimate the parameters related to seismic repair, relying only on FEMA P58 data leads to incorrect estimates and for the mentioned estimates, the construction and seismic repair conditions in Iran should be considered in particular
