  7. Abstract:
  8. Today, to reduce the effects of greenhouse gases on the earth, as well as reduce dependence on fossil fuels and other non-renewable sources, the international community is moving towards greater use of renewable energy. The oscillating water column device as a wave energy converter system has the ability to use and absorb energy within the waves through a chamber consisting an air and a water column. This system has the ability to move the turbine installed on the valve by expanding and compressing the air passing through the valve. Oscillating water column systems have different categories, and this high diversity makes the choice of this wave energy converter closely related to the climatic characteristics of the region, as well as the conditions of the bed and the beach. Therefore, in this thesis, the wave power of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman was examined and the feasibility of the wave power of these two regions was done by Mike 21 software and the most suitable region both in terms of wave power and environmental effects of this system on the desired area, was selected. Then, a two-dimensional numerical analysis was performed in Ansys Fluent commercial software to investigate of the effect of chamber’s front wall slope as one of the important and influential parameters on the hydrodynamic efficiency of this system. There was a good agreement between the numerical results and experimental data. The results of feasibility of the wave power of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman showed that Siri Island has better features compared to other regions. This island has rocky shores and good environmental conditions and also has a maximum wave power of approximately 50 kW/m; But this island isn't an acceptable option for setting up an oscillating water column device because of its low average wave power (1,453 kW/m) and because it is less than the minimum power required to set up a wave energy converter (20 to 50 Kw/m). Furthermore, the results of the effect of chamber’s front wall slope of an oscillating water column system showed that with increasing this slope, the hydrodynamic efficiency of the device decreases due to lower volume flow rate of air passing through the valve and the pressure inside the chamber for a specific wave. Zero degree front wall slope (without front wall slope) had better results than 15, 22.5 and 30 degree front wall slopes. In addition, these results show that the efficiency change pattern is the same for each front wall slope at different wavelengths, but there are differences in the values of this efficiency.
