- Abstract:
- The sea's ecosystem is the most sensitive and essential as the last recipient of sea and land pollution. The increasing requirement for building thermal power plants and desalination plants and a great demand for their thermal effluents discharge causes a serious threat to the rich coastal environment. In this project, a general study on environmental and meteorological data required to investigate the environmental effects of effluent discharge from desalination plants in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman has been conducted, and the general process of conducting thermal effluent discharge research in this area is presented. Next, in a case study using MIKE hydrodynamic software and modeling the flow and heat dispersion based on this numerical software to investigate different discharge scenarios and investigate the destructive effects of heat dispersion due to brine water effluent discharge of a coastal desalination facility in Chabahar Bay has been provided with the current capacity of the facility and also in case of upgrading the capacity of the facility. Necessary flow simulation and heat dispersion data are provided from accessible internet databases. Calibration of water level data in MIKE software is done with water level data unrestricted in the available database. Then, to study the environmental criteria of effluent discharge, vegetation and animals and sensitive coastal areas of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman were prepared. Then, suitable hydrodynamic and environmental criteria were selected and examined to investigate the appropriate scenario of effluent discharge. Finally, according to the proposed environmental criteria, suitable scenarios for discharge effluent in current capacity of the facility and upgrade of the facility are presented.
