  7. Abstract:
  8. The present work focuses on the sustainable development of an intelligent self-healing anticorrosion coating using nanocontainers based on the aluminium oxide nanostructure-pomegranate peel extract-Ce3+ (Ce-PPE@Cat). The Ce-PPE@Cat nanopigment was introduced into the epoxy film (Ep) to achieve a smart barrier/ self-healing anti-corrosive property. To this end, a couple of characterization tests, including FT-IR, TGA, and, BET have been carried out to investigate the Ce-PPE@Cat nanopigment structure/composition. The effectiveness of the anti-corrosion performance of the established coatings was confirmed by EIS, FE-SEM, and accelerated salt spray test. Furthermore, EIS studies revealed that introducing Ce-PPE@Cat nanopigment into defected epoxy coating enhanced total corrosion resistance after 24 h of immersion by 440 % compared to the coating without nanopigments (NPs) .The observation of the significant impedance enhancement confirmed the excellent barrier effect of Cat and synergistic behavior and noticeable corrosion inhibition impact of PPE along with the cerium cations on the mild steel corrosion mitigation. The salt spray test results also exhibited the coating's superior anti-corrosion capabilities after 360 hour
