- Abstract:
- This study aims to evaluate the seismic behavior of geotextile-reinforced soil retaining walls by using incremental dynamic analysis and endurance time analysis methods. Five different wall models with variables of length and the modulus of elasticity of reinforcements have been constructed in the ABAQUS finite element software. In this study, the soil behavior and the interaction between the soil and reinforcement are modeled using a fully plastic linear elastic behavior model based on the Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion. Despite reinforced retaining walls' numerous benefits and extensive use, there is an obvious need for more precise design and a better knowledge of these structures' static and, in particular, dynamic behavior during earthquakes. The earthquake's random characteristics, including its duration, location, and intensity, highlight the need for probabilistic seismic design. All relevant elements, including uncertainty and risk level, should be considered in this evaluation and thoughtfully designed. Fragility curves at different damage states have been prepared for each model. These curves are one of the necessary tools to assess the damage caused by earthquakes and indicate the probability of exceedance of a specific damage for a structure at different earthquake intensity levels. In this study, the damage index is the relative displacement of the top to the bottom of the wall. The values of this index are considered 1%, 2%, and 4% of the wall height. The results show that the time duration method is a real method for determining the retaining wall's seismic response along a range of intensities. This method may be used to design this type of structure with a significantly lower computing cost and to draw the fragility curve. Additionally, multiple retaining wall samples with different lengths and elasticity modulus were created, and the results showed that reducing the risk of retaining wall damage by increasing the length and elasticity modulus of reinforcements.
