  5. In this article, the transfer matrix method (TMM) is modified for study of optical wave propagation in layered media with conducting interfaces. Both the TE and TM mode transfer matrices are presented and their properties are discussed. The application of the modified TMM to study of propagation in a Kronig-Penny photonic crystal is explained. The practical realization of a Kronig-Penny photonic crystal through heterostructures with conducting interfaces is also demonstrated. © 2002 SPIE
