  7. Abstract:
  8. Traffic accidents are one of the most important challenges that menaced public health in the world. The research results show that the human factor is one of the most important factors in the occurrence of accidents, and the need to further investigate this factor seems necessary. Buses are the main means of intercity transportation in the country, many passengers use this method of transportation every day. according to the results, buses have the most impact on road accidents, also due to the large number of passengers, they have the most impact on the number of fatalities. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of individual and behavioral characteristics on the number of accidents in intercity bus drivers based on the construction of a structural equation model. For this purpose, by using questionnaires of driving behavior, inattention, quality of sleep, personal characteristics and accident information of intercity bus drivers, the data was collected by verbal interview method. At the end of this research, a comprehensive descriptive model has been presented to identify the relationship between variables affecting the safe driving of intercity buses in Iran. In this research, driving errors, traffic fines, driver fatigue and drug use were identified as important factors in the occurrence of accidents among intercity bus drivers. Preventing the occurrence of each of these factors will have a great impact on reducing accidents. Using this research and examining each of the relevant factors can be useful in management and engineering programs
