  8. In the proccess of making key slots in lock parts, broaching is necessary. The only procedure or at least the best procedure for making the slots is broaching. High speed and precision, surface quality and the ability to create complicated surfaces in one step are the advantages that make broaching suitable for this product. The cost of tool maintainance and replacement is very important to make this process efficient economically, therefore, determining the factors affecting tool life are important for industries. The purpose of this study is to increase the life of narrow broaching tools. In other words, in this study, the purpose is to design and manufacture the tool in such a way that machining costs are minimized, so the optimization of tool is very important beacause the cost of tool is very significant. For this purpose, geometrical optimization of the tool is required in order to minimize the maximum stress. So, in the first step, a material that is appropriate for the appliciation is selected. In the second step, the design parameters and their ranges are determined according to the conditions and limitations such as material properties, workpiece geometry, machine stroke length, etc. Then optimization trials based on Taguchi method is designed and performed. At the end, the best geometry is selected and results are discussed
