- Abstract:
- In recent years, given the rapid advancements in various technologies, there has been a heightened demand for establishing swift communications. Terahertz telecommunication, with its distinctive spectral characteristics, has garnered significant attention among researchers. Consequently, for the operationalization of next-generation wireless telecommunications devices, special considerations must be taken into account in their design. The selection of an appropriate substrate and possessing comprehensive information about substrate behavior at terahertz frequencies are among the crucial factors in these designs. In this thesis, we have examined the interaction of terahertz waves with single-layer and multilayer substrates through terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. Employing a terahertz time-domain spectroscopic measurement setup in the transmission mode, we measure the wave passing through the substrate. Subsequently, the measured transformation function is compared with the analytical transformation function obtained from the modeling of the designated substrate. By minimizing the disparity between these two transformation functions, we determine the complex refractive index and thickness of each layer in the sample. Furthermore, we examine the anisotropy and inhomogeneity of the samples by altering the direction of terahertz wave radiation and investigating the effect of the thickness of the samples. To comprehensively analyze the target substrate using the extracted optical variables, including the real and imaginary parts of the refractive index, we also extract additional parameters such as the loss tangent, relative transmittance coefficient, and absorption coefficient of the substrate. This multifaceted approach aims to provide valuable insights for the optimal design of the desired devices
