- Abstract:
- This thesis presents significant findings relevant to the transportation industry, focusing on the factors influencing drivers' inclination towards seeking higher payment. The study also proposes potential strategies to enhance driver satisfaction and retention. The research examines the elements that affect drivers' inclination to request higher wages when confronted with challenging work scenarios. Data from Iranian heavy vehicle drivers were collected using a structured questionnaire, which assessed their willingness to receive higher wages under unfavorable conditions such as mountain roads, hot and muddy weather, additional stops during the trip, and extended periods away from home. The data collected were subjected to Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis. The study sought to investigate the impact of drivers' experience and marital status on their responses to wage increase questions. Additionally, it aimed to identify the most crucial factors influencing their inclination to request higher wages under unfavorable working conditions through the mean equality test. The findings reveal that married drivers exhibit a significant tendency to request higher wages when faced with extended periods away from home and additional stops during their trips compared to single drivers. Moreover, the drivers' work experience was found to play a significant role in their desire for higher wages, particularly for mountain road trips and extended periods away from home. Notably, as the drivers' work experience increases, their inclination to request higher payment for mountain road trips decreases, while their desire for higher wages during extended periods away from home increases. Furthermore, the results indicate that, on average, the most influential factors driving drivers' willingness to request higher wages are the variables associated with the number of stops during the route, whether one or two extra stops
