  7. Abstract:
  8. In recent years, dust pollution has become a worldwide issue due to the creation of serious environmental problems and the effects it has on human health. In this research, an environmentally friendly soil stabilizer has been synthesized, and its performance has been investigated. Acrylamide monomers were grafted onto sodium lignosulfonate chains, utilizing solution polymerization. The soil of the Ahvaz deserts was used in the analyses. Using EDX and DLS analyses, the components of this soil and the particle size distribution of the used soil were obtained. Characterization of the functional groups and the structure of the graft copolymer were done by FTIR and H-NMR analysis, respectively, and the molecular weight of the synthesized copolymer was measured by GPC analysis. Surface morphology was also investigated using the FE-SEM test. The results of the rheology test showed that 2 and 5% solutions can be sprayed. The results of the water retention test showed that the 5% copolymer solution increased the water retention by 9.17%. By evaluating the results of the wind erosion resistance test, it was found that by using a 5% solution, the reduction of soil mass decreased by 77.44%. In the penetration test, the 5% solution showed a penetration depth of up to 40 mm. In the water erosion resistance test, the sample containing 5% copolymer with a curing time of 28 days was able to withstand nine cycles of wetting and drying. Also, by doing biodegradability and plant growth tests, it was proved that the synthesized graft copolymer is compatible with the environment. Based on the results of the analysis, the synthesized graft copolymer with a concentration of 5% is suitable for soil stabilization
