- Abstract:
- Flapping-wing pseudo-insects, given their multi-body and periodic aerodynamic nature, are considered some of the most complex aerial systems. Many of the aerodynamic and dynamic phenomena governing these creatures remain elusive despite decades of research by engineers. One particularly fascinating phenomenon is vibrational stabilization, which plays a significant role in the intrinsic stability of these birds. In fact, this phenomenon functions as a form of an open-loop asymptotic stability system. This research investigates the existential nature of this phenomenon and its impact on the stability of an oscillating inverted pendulum and a six-degree-of-freedom model of a flapping-wing pseudo-insect. Here, after analytical proof of this phenomenon, considering wing inertia and the lack of temporal averaging on forces, a nonlinear simulation model is used to study the design parameters and their effects on the dynamic stability of this pseudo-insect
