  4. Abstract:
  5. The purpose of this letter is to present a simple technique for monitoring the health status of the output capacitor of a boost converter. The majority of previous studies have measured an electrolytic capacitor equivalent series resistance or capacitance to track its health condition. However, this letter suggests a new approach based on the accurate measurement of the dissipation factor. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through experimental tests. According to the results, the dissipation factor is measured with a maximum error of 4%. © 1986-2012 IEEE
