  4. Abstract:
  5. Resolvers are position sensors that are divided into two types: wound rotor (WR) and variable reluctance (VR) ones. Although variable reluctance resolvers have a lower manufacturing cost, electrical and mechanical faults have a destructive effect on their accuracy. Therefore, for reliable performance of the sensor, detecting those faults is critical and the current paper deals with this issue. In this paper, indices for detecting short-circuit (SC), static eccentricity (SE) and dynamic eccentricity (DE) faults are introduced, then based on the suggested indices, a method for fault detection is presented. Finally, the correctness of the presented method is confirmed using time stepping finite element method. © 2023 IEEE
