- Abstract:
- Due to the significant role of vehicles in air pollution in Tehran and other metropolitan areas of the country, continuous monitoring and ensuring the quality and durability of automotive after-treatment catalysts based on valid standard methods is essential. One of the methods for evaluating the performance and durability of automotive after-treatment catalysts is using a reactor system that provides test conditions using simulated exhaust gas. In this method, the catalyst sample is exposed to a stream of simulated exhaust gases, and a specific aging cycle is performed by controlling the catalyst's operating conditions, including temperature and air-to-fuel ratio in the exhaust gas. The purpose of this project is to study the experimental method of aging in a reactor system. To this end, a commercial three-way catalyst sample was supplied. The catalyst samples were aged by exposing it to the simulated exhaust gas at high temperature. The effect of catalyst aging was investigated by performing characterization tests including specific surface area measurement, analysis of the amount of precious metals using ICP-OES analysis, morphology study based on electron microscope images, oxygen storage capacity, and reactor performance evaluation test. Finally, the effect of aging on the catalyst characteristics and its activity was investigated. Keywords: Three-way catalyst, Catalyst aging, Simulated exhaust gas
