  8. One of the main challenges in the field of smart automation is the ability to establish connections between various devices and sensors. Considering that smart devices come from various brands and each uses different protocols, the presence of a smart gateway capable of supporting all Internet of Things (IoT) protocols seems essential. This research is about designing and implementing a smart gateway capable of connecting to different sensors and actuators using diverse IoT protocols such as MQTT, Zigbee, I2C, UART, and mesh networks. It can also translate between different protocols and comes with a web page and a smart mobile app for controlling and monitoring the building. The gateway acts as the brain of the building and can make decisions regarding the status of various building appliances, especially focusing on the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, which are the main focus of this research. Additionally, this study employs a reinforcement learning algorithm that enables simultaneous model learning and application. The aim of this research is to control the HVAC setpoint to maintain the temperature within a desired range to enhance the occupants' comfort while simultaneously minimizing energy consumption. The results have shown that using this system, energy consumption for heating by the HVAC system was reduced by 9% over a month
