  7. Abstract:
  8. Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) are a new class of zero-dimensional carbon-based nanoparticles with a size range from 1 to 10 nanometers. In this study, it was tried to form new carbon-nitrogen bond in organic synthesis using non-metal CQD-catalysis, thereby taking a significant step towards enhancing the catalytic role of carbon nanoparticles. Carbon-nitrogen bond is of paramount importance in biology and organic chemistry. In this regard transamidation reaction, reductive amination, and thioureas syntheses as three important reactions in organic chemistry were explored using non-metal CQD-catalysis. Transamidation is mainly used to produce new amides by forming carbon-nitrogen bond. This reaction is particularly important because it is a challenging transformation. The second reaction, reductive amination, is a common method for amine synthesis and widely used in green chemistry. Lastly and importantly, the main aim of this project is on the production of thiourea derivatives using lysine-modified CQD catalysis as the catalyst of the reaction. Synthesis of thioureas or their derived compounds holds significant importance in organic chemistry because of their prominent role in medicinal chemistry, natural product chemistry and also as organo catalysts in orginc synthesis. Thus, in this project a one-pot three-step synthetic method was developed for synthesizing thiourea derivatives. Based on some experimental results such as GC-MS analysis a mechanism for the synthesis of thiourea was also proposed
