- Abstract:
- In this research, a traffic signal control strategy is implemented to preserve privacy and reduce network traffic vulnerability against cyber attacks while maintaining the confidentiality of traffic data. Considering a traffic control method based on a macroscopic SAF model, a comprehensive secure computational scheme is designed, involving multiple servers to perform computations needed for obtaining the control signal. A secret sharing method is employed for encrypting traffic data among multiple servers, where servers directly operate on the encrypted data, securely calculate time-space intersection phases, and, thus, curious computational servers or malicious actors, who may have access to some encoded values, remain unaware of the actual sensitive data values. Consequently, this lack of knowledge about the system limits the capability of malicious actors to launch a sophisticated attack on the traffic network. Furthermore, by leveraging the secret sharing capabilities in reconstructing secrets from various server combinations, a method for detecting and recovering from injection attacks of incorrect data into time-space green phases signals is also utilized. If the number of servers under attack exceeds a predetermined threshold for the secret sharing scheme, a linear combination of nominal green time signal and the previous correct green time signal replaces the incorrect green time signal. Finally, using Monte Carlo simulations with various attack probabilities on the servers, the proposed algorithm's accuracy is examined
