- Abstract:
- This research investigates the impact of boundary conditions on the performance of a Coriolis flow meter equipped with a pair of straight tubes. Boundary condition here refers to the support plates that connect the two tubes. Initially, the tube containing the fluid was considered as a pair of straight tubes with adjustable boundary conditions. The equations of motion for the fluid inside the tube were written under constant pressure and temperature, and the Galerkin method was used to eliminate the spatial term of the differential equations. The problem was analytically solved to the extent possible, examining the effect of boundary conditions on modal properties, the phase shift readings, and flow metering. Finally, after constructing the flow meter and using related equipment, the analytical results were validated through laboratory facilities. In the experimental tests, it was observed that in the flow meter used, the phase shift created at the location of the two sensors on the tubes for low flows, typically generated by conventional pumps, is very low, under 0.1 degrees. It was also observed that the relationship between flow rate and the phase shift read by the two sensors is linear. Additionally, changing the stiffness of the support plates installed at the ends of the flow meter tubes showed no effect on the phase shift of vibration at the location of the two sensors, leading to the conclusion that the range of stiffness values of the support plates used in the tests is in the saturation region. In the end, the results of the experimental test and the analytical solution showed good agreement in the topics studied. The consistency of the phase shift values obtained from the analytical solution and experimental tests under different support conditions is a significant feature of this research
