- Abstract:
- A survey of the James Webb Space Telescope characteristics is presented and it is compared with the Hubble Space Telescope. The Scientific Instruments and the telecommunication subsystems of the Space Telescope are studied. The space telescope cameras operate mainly from Near Infrared to Mid Infrared. The orbit of the James Webb telescope is carefully studied. The Azimuth and the Elevation angles of the JWST is calculated for each of the Deep Space Network stations. Given the telecommunications payload characteristics of the JWST and those of the Deep Space Network receivers at Canberra, Madrid and Goldstone, the communication link between the JWST and the DSN receivers is evaluated at different atmospheric conditions in the Ka-band. The carrier to Noise ratio (C/N) is estimated in different seasons and different local times. The possibility of the communication link cut off is evaluated. A number of proposals is given for future Space Telescope operations for better link performance
