- Abstract:
- Gas turbines are widely used in various industries, including aviation, oil and gas industries. Due to the wide application and high cost of manufacturing the engine, the performance of all its components must be carefully checked in different operating conditions before construction. There are various methods for predicting the performance of axial flow turbines, including one-dimensional and three-dimensional modeling. Main purpose of this research is to investigate the possibility of predicting the performance of the axial flow turbine of a gas turbine engine using the results of cascade tests. For this purpose, first the necessary tests are performed on the cascades of stator and rotor the turbine in order to extract the data required for modeling. Then, one-dimensional model of the turbine is prepared using the results of the cascade tests. The results of one-dimensional model are compared with the experimental results. This comparison shows that in the performance curve of the turbine, in design point the pressure ratio difference is 3.6% and the isentropic efficiency difference is 4.1%. This shows accuracy and acceptability of this method. Therefore, using the results of the cascade tests, the behavior of the turbine can be predicted with good accuracy, and this is an important step in the design of new turbines. Finally, after validating the one-dimensional model, constant speed curves of the turbine are drawn, which is not possible to extract these curves by gas turbine engine tests. Therefore, these curves can be use to analyze the axial turbine performance
