- Abstract:
- The aim of this thesis is to provide a correct explanation of technological determinism. According to this theory, technology has changed our lifestyle and we have to adapt ourselves to it, which is obvious to us even without knowing about this theory. But is this really the essence of technology? Or does the user community act like this when faced with technology? This is the question that we seek to answer in this thesis. For this purpose, we first express different readings of technological determinism, and some theories aligned and not aligned with it. Then we address the dual nature of technology and show that "physical structure" and "the function intended by the designer" together constitute the nature of a technology. In the following, for a more detailed examination of the social effects of technology, we have taken the help of John Searle's "social facts" and we show that by entering the society and becoming widespread, technology also acquires a social nature, which gradually goes to the background of people's minds and affects their perception of the world around them, and this is how the effects of technology on society and people's lifestyles seem deterministic to us
