- Abstract:
- Politicians and urban planners aim to improve citizens' overall life satisfaction. Researchers have offered various definitions of life satisfaction, making it difficult to provide a specific definition. However, life satisfaction can be seen as an assessment of different aspects of life. The method of travel and transportation factors undoubtedly play a crucial role in this assessment. Due to personal and social constraints, users' behavior in transportation can either may or may not align with their attitudes. This behavior leads to the categorization of users into two groups: consonant and dissonant users. Consequently, planning and policy-making to increase life satisfaction will differ for these two groups. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the factors that impact life satisfaction among both consonant and dissonant users. In order to accomplish this objective, we will utilize data from a database in Tehran, including information about attitudes towards transportation and safety, lifestyle and personality, travel mode choice, and social and economic characteristics. We will use structural equation modeling to determine the relationships between these variables and the level of life satisfaction experienced by users. The results indicate that the attitude towards walking has a direct, positive impact on life satisfaction for dissonant users and an indirect, positive impact on life satisfaction for consonant users. Meanwhile, the attitude towards public transportation has a negative and indirect effect on the life satisfaction of consonant users and a direct negative effect on dissonant users. The results from the analysis of the structural equation model show that being married and having a higher education directly and positively impact life satisfaction for both the consonant and dissonant groups
