- Today, with the increasing use of non-linear loads in the power grid, power quality problems such as current harmonics, unbalance and reactive power have intensified. It is common to use active power filters to solve these problems. In order to justify the use of active filter, two approaches can be adopted. On the one hand, by increasing the active filter capability such as simultaneous harmonic compensation, umbalance and reactive power by one device, the filter capabilities increased. On the other hand, it reduced the final cost of the active filter. In this research, firstly, a comprehensive hardware structure for various compensation applications is presented. This is done with the aim of increasing the filter ability and reducing the design cost for different applications. In the following, different detection and control methods in the active filter have been investigated. Then, the implementation of these methods along with other peripheral systems is specified in the filter. In the next step, the filter is fully simulated and after ensuring the correct operation of the filter, the necessary calculations are applied and extracted for the operation of the filter in different methods. In the final step, the time required to complete the processing loop is calculated for two common industrial processors. These steps have been done with the aim of reducing the cost of the processor and peripheral modules, which are factors affecting the price of the filter hardware. In the final part of this thesis, the effect of choosing different detection methods on the quality of filter compensation is determined. Based on this, a compensation strategy has been proposed to increase the efficiency of the active filter power network. In the following, the advantages and disadvantages of using different control methods for the use of active filter are specified. Finally, the influence of the choice of detection and control method and their optimization on the performance of the processor has been investigated. In this way, the final price of the active filter can be reduced by choosing the processor required for the active filter more accurately, so that the use of this equipment is more justified
