- Abstract:
- With the advancement of automotive industry, the number of electronic systems that need to communicate with each other has increased. An effective strategy to meet these growing demands is using bus-based protocols, which can establish safe communication among numerous nodes with reasonable cost, weight, and space requirements. The objective of this thesis is the design and implementation of a transceiver based on the FlexRay protocol. The significance of this protocol lies in its ability to provide higher data transmission rates compared to other protocols like CAN and LIN, and its role as the foundational communication medium among various domains in modern vehicle architectures. In this research, various automotive communication protocols has been reviewed concisely. Subsequently, it provides a detailed introduction to the FlexRay protocol. By investigating ISO 17458 standards, the desired specifications for the transceiver have been extracted. For the receiver block, a systematic approach is employed minimizing the number of elements used, thereby conserving power consumption and consumed area. The proposed structure for the receiver ensures proper functionality against high common-mode voltage inputs and provides adequate Electromagnetic Immunity (EMI). In the transmitter section, a new structure has been proposed that not only meets the standard requirements but also improves the reduction of Electromagnetic Emissions (EME). Furthermore, both blocks are laid out to estimate the total area occupied by the system. Finally, comprehensive tests are conducted to ensure the proper functioning of both blocks together. In order to ensure reliable power management, which is crucial for the proper operation of mixed-signal applications, including the FlexRay transceiver, a scalable Power-on Reset (PoR) structure was proposed. The significance of PoR circuits, which are employed for monitoring and controlling power supply conditions, has been emphasized in industrial product datasheets, highlighting their necessity for the final industrial deployment of the transceiver.
