- Abstract:
- In the past decade, with the expansion of e-commerce, there has been an unprecedented growth in demand for online retailing. Due to this growth, fast, efficient, and flawless delivery of shipments to final customers has become especially important. On the other hand, the expansion of urbanization and the increase in urban traffic have also created obstacles to efficient delivery. These factors have introduced new challenges for logistics service provider companies. Several innovations have been proposed in recent years to address these problems. Delivery of goods to locations such as the trunk-in-car or shared delivery locations like lockers is one of the key innovations in solving logistics challenges. Additionally, the use of autonomous vehicles, such as delivery robots, alongside traditional vehicles like trucks, offers another solution to logistics problems. In this research, to address these challenges, embracing potential of the robots and delivery options, the vehicle routing problem with robots and delivery options has been developed. In this model, each customer can offer one or more delivery options, either at personal or shared delivery locations, and prioritize their preferences. Furthermore, robots are used in collaboration with trucks. To describe this problem, we have presented a mixed-integer linear programming model to minimize total time spent by trucks. To solve the problem, a two-stage clustering-based algorithm has been employed, capable of solving medium-sized instances in a reasonable time. Preliminary results show a 36% reduction in total truck time
