- The objective of this research is to design a sparse multistatic circular array operating at frequencies close to millimeter wave frequencies, which is supposed to image the space above objects, especially for overhead imaging. The imaging frequency range is set between 10 and 20 GHz. The circular array used in this research is obtained from a basic rectangular array. This multistatic array consists of 16 transmitters and 64 receivers, with one transmitter positioned at the center and the remaining 15 placed around it. The locations of the receivers in the reconstruction plane are optimized using a genetic algorithm to improve PSNR and SSIM indices. The cost function in the genetic algorithm focuses on minimizing the pollutions caused by the point spread function. Additionally, the advantage of using a circular array instead of a rectangular one is the inherent symmetry across the plane, leading to symmetry in the reconstruction plane as well. To further enhance the array optimization, the steps and parameters of the genetic algorithm have been specifically adjusted for this particular problem, and the newly optimized algorithm is referred to as the "Modified Genetic Algorithm". The array's sparsity is approximately 90%, which can lead to reduced reconstruction time and simplified hardware implementation. The reconstruction of multiple objects well-showed that the PSNR was improved by 1.6 dB and SSIM by 0.15 compared to spiral array. In addition, using compressed sensing imaging technique, the quality of the reconstructed image was improved
