- Abstract:
- The application of airborne passive bistatic radar (PBR) represents the latest advancement in passive radar technology. An airborne passive system is cheaper, lighter, easier to cool, and requires less power compared to a conventional active radar. A comprehensive literature review revealed a lack of both theoretical and experimental research in the field of airborne passive bistatic radar. In this study, the design principles of passive bistatic radar systems, along with the key factors affecting the design phase, are examined. Signal analysis of external sources shows that Starlink satellite signals outperform other illumination sources. The importance of reference signal quality, the need for effective filtering to mitigate DSI, and other related challenges are also discussed. Furthermore, various localization methods are reviewed, and finally, a novel proposed method is presented. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms the others. Based on the obtained results, the extracted parameters from this research can be utilized for the practical implementation of the system
