Abstract
Special geometrical sections, known as “duct”, which can be installed on merchant vessels stern in order to improve propulsion system and propeller performance, today have evolved considerably. The force which produces by the propeller depends on efficiency of propulsion system. In the way of improving the efficiency of propulsion systems, by using these special geometrical sections, to much research have been done from the mid-twentieth century. The Wake Equalizing Ducts (WEDs) in addition to conduct the more uniform fluid flow to the propeller disk (which causes to improve the propeller operation), affect on flow separation in ship stern zone and will decrease the separated flow zone....
Using Body Fluids for Early Prostate Cancer Detection
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abdekhodaie, Mohammad Jafar (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, despite the notable progress in diagnostics and therapeutics, cancer remains the second cause of death worldwide. This rather high mortality rate is often attributed to cancers diagnosed at late stages, including prostate cancer. Among the techniques approved for prostate cancer diagnosis, total or free prostate-specific antigen screening using blood serum samples is the sole method able to detect prostate cancer at an early stage. This test has led to a significant decrease in prostate cancer-related deaths. Nonetheless, it possesses several drawbacks, such as the complex, costly, and time-consuming conventional methods utilized in clinical laboratories to assess the concentration of...

Abstract
Let G be a graph and S be a set of non-negative integers. By an S-degree free spanning forest of G we mean a spanning forest of G with no vertex degree in S. In this paper we study the existence of {0,2}-degree free spanning forests in graphs. We show that if G is a graph with minimum degree at least 4, then there exists a {0,2}-degree free spanning forest. Moreover, we show that every 2-connected graph with maximum degree at least 5 admits a {0,2}-degree free spanning forest, and every 3-connected graph admits a {0,2}-degree free spanning forest

Abstract
To help walking, using assistive devices can be considered to reduce the loads caused by weight and to effectively decrease the propulsive forces. In this study, a mobility Saddle-Assistive Device (S-AD) supporting body weight while walking was evaluated on two healthy volunteers. This device is based on the support of body weight against gravity with the help of a saddle, which is not used in other passive mobility assistive devices. To prove the efficiency of this device, the experimental results obtained while walking with this device were compared with those related to walking without the assistive device. The results showed that this device could significantly reduce the forces and...

Abstract
Porosity and permeability alteration due to the thermo-poro-elastic stress field disturbance from the cold fluid injection is a deciding factor for longer, more economic, and safer heat extraction from an enhanced geothermal system (EGS). In the Soultz-sous-Forêts geothermal system, faulted zones are the main flow paths, and the resulting porosity–permeability development over time due to stress reorientation is more sensitive in comparison with the regions without faulted zones. Available operational and field data are combined through a validated numerical simulation model to examine the mechanical impact on the pressure and temperature evolution. Results shows that near the injection...

Abstract
Despite the numerous researches in Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) risk of austenitic stainless steels in aqueous chloride solution, no formulation or reliable method for prediction of time to failure as a result of SCC has yet been defined. In this paper, the capability of artificial neural network for estimation of the time to failure for SCC of 304 stainless steel in aqueous chloride solution together with sensitivity analysis has been expressed. The output results showed that artificial neural network can predict the time to failure for about 74% of the variance of SCC experimental data. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis also demonstrated the effects of input parameters (Temperature,...

Abstract
The transformer leakage inductance (TLI) is an important parameter in the design phase of the isolated power supplies. Hence, the TLI estimation before the transformer construction is very useful for the designers. The previous works considered an ordered winding turn arrangement (WTA) for the transformers. This assumption considers only ideal windings which may result in a significant error from what will be achieved after the construction of the transformer. This article concentrates on the transformers with nonideal windings in which the turns are not ordered. The uneven distribution of the turns in the layers is mainly due to the wrapping machine error. Hence, for a specific transformer...

Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) as therapeutic agents have attracted increasing interest in the past decade owing to their significant effectiveness in treating a wide array of ailments. These polymerases II-derived noncoding RNAs act through post-transcriptional controlling of different proteins and their allied pathways. Like other areas of medicine, researchers have utilized miRNAs for managing acute and chronic wounds. The increase in the number of patients suffering from either under-healing or over-healing wound demonstrates the limited efficacy of the current wound healing strategies and dictates the demands for simpler approaches with greater efficacy. Various miRNA can be designed to induce...

Abstract
Present work illustrated that the performance of ultrafine silica (Si) particles was improved considerably by rational hybridization with nanodiamond (ND). For this, Si@ND hybrid particles synthesized by chemical hybridization were incorporated into styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) up to 10 phr. Scanning electron microscopy revealed coarse flower-like clusters for Si@ND nanohybrids, while Si exhibited rigid agglomerates in SBR. Comparing with physical hybrid (Si&ND) and single Si particles, it was revealed that chemical hybrids synergistically improved tensile properties, like 100% and 135% improvements in tensile strength and elongation at break, respectively. Dynamic mechanical analysis of...

Abstract
Point Set Registration (PSR) of anatomic parts is used in different fields such as Patient Specific Implant (PSI) design in Computer Assisted Surgery (CAS) procedure. We designed a modified rigid PSR method based on student's-t mixture model. The proposed method is compared with Coherent Point Drift (CPD) registration method. Higher convergence speed and the lower error value are the advantages of the suggested algorithm in compare with CPD. In our method, the number of iterations decreases by about 69%, and the final error improvement was about 7% in comparison with CPD. The robustness of the proposed algorithm makes it beneficial to be used in the procedure of designing PSI in both...

Abstract
The current study demonstrates homogenous decorating of zinc oxide quantum dots (QDs) onto graphene oxide (GO) surface via simple chemical method. The AFM image exhibited that the prepared graphene was 0.8 nm thick and hence practically monolayer. Average size of the ZnO QDs was estimated by transmission electron microscopy around 3 nm. Instrumental and chemical analyses demonstrated formation of a strong bond between ZnO QDs and GO, through C-O-Zn and C-Zn bridges. The UV-visible spectra displayed that the introduction of graphene sheets to ZnO QDs resulted in higher absorption intensity of UV as well as widening of adsorption window toward visible light for ZnO-Graphene due to chemical...

Abstract
A label-free electrochemical biosensor was developed for the rapid detection of the matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) biomarker on the basis of antibody immobilizing on the zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticle and ZnO nanorod electrodes. The charge transfer resistance (Rct) of the electrodes was used as the indicator for MMP-9 concentration, which was obtained through cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The ZnO nanorod-based biosensor exhibited linear behavior in the MMP-9 concentration range of 1–1000 ng/ml, which is a wider range than the available concentration ranges for most of the conventional methods. The biosensor sensitivity was 32.5 μA/(decade × cm2)...

Abstract
Nanoparticles of high-Z elements exhibit stronger photoelectric effects than soft tissues under gamma irradiation. Hence, they can be used as effective radiosensitizers for increasing the efficiency of current radiotherapy. In this work, superparamagnetic zinc ferrite spinel (ZnFe2O4) nanoparticles were synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction method and used as radiosensitizers in cancer therapy. The magnetic nanoparticles showed fast separation from solutions (e.g., ~ 1 min for 2 mg mL- 1 of the nanoparticles in ethanol) by applying an external magnetic field (~ 1 T). The ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles were applied in an in vitro radiotherapy of lymph node carcinoma of prostate cells (as high...
