A Parametric Study of Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) Low Height Walls with Concrete Block Facing in FLAC Software
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Because of seismic flexibility, aesthetics, economic advantage and rapid construction of reinforced soil walls, application of these walls has raised tremendously since 1970’s. The early reinforced soil retaining walls used metallic srips to reinforce the soil with precast concrete panels as facing, however, since 1990’s using of geosynthetics to reinforce these walls with modular concrete block facing have replaced the old fashion. In this study, a finite difference code was developed in FLAC software. After verification of the numerical modeling procedure, a wall with 3.6m height reinforced by geosynthetics was simulated. In the course of numerical simulations the stage of counstruction,...
Numerical Study of Geotextile Application in Downstream Filter Zone of an Embankment Dam with Clay Core
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shamsaie, Abolfazl (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, applications of the synthetic materials are developing in civil engineering projects and widely used in these projects. Therefore, during previous years; use of the Geotextiles as one of the Geosynthetic materials in order to filtration, drainage, separation, soil protection, etc have developed ever-increasing. The goal of this research is modeling and studies of the Geotextiles application in the downstream filter zone of embankment dams in combination with granular materials using FLAC2D software. Gordeh Bin embankment dam situated in West Azerbaijan province has been chosen as case study. In this matter, different models have been made with changes in thickness of the inclined...
Laboratory and Numerical Modeling of Hydraulic Behavior of Saturated Fine Grained Soils Dewatered by Electrokinetic Geosynthetic
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor) ; Shariatmadari, Nader (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Most available methods which are well able to improve or dewater coarse soils have little success dealing with fine soils and clays and using these methods to dewater clays needs great amount of time and money. Electrokinetic Geosynthetic is one of new methods that have had a promising future. Regarding the importance and tremendous usage of dewatering in fine soils, the efficiency of electrokinetic geosynthetic method in dewatering fine soils has been taken under the consideration in this research. Following laboratory experimentation, numerical modeling of this process has been done. In this research some laboratory test has been done on kaolinite clay and the effects of pH of specimen,...
