Binding Energy of Multi-Partite Quantum Systems based on Quantum Thermodynamics Viewpoint
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Rezakhani, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Examining composite quantum systems through quantum thermodynamics, we face the new concept of binding energy. In this thesis, we are going to present a general definition for binding energy in quantum systems which covers any kind of interactions. First of all, we examine the possibility of energy exchange in a quantum system using quantum thermodynamics. In this theory, energy exchanges of an open quantum system may be divided in to two portions: heat and work; due to an accepted definition, heat is the portion of energy that is supposed to change entropy, while work has no influence on that. In this research, we restrict our calculations to the systems which are thermally closed and...
Market Manipulation During Rights Offering: Evidence from the Tehran Stock Exchange
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, we investigate the phenomenon of price manipulation in rights offering transactions using the data of share capital increase, price and ownership of firms in Iranian capital market. We find that blockholders reduce the share price by selling stocks during the rights trading period and then buying the rights at lower prices. We further find that the shareholders who bought the highest amount of the rights tend to sell a higher percentage of shares during the trading period, and the cumulative abnormal return is inversely related to the rate of sale of these blockholders. We also observe that the probability of price manipulation is higher for stocks with lower liquidity and...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Bakhshi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
The present study deals with the development of development of fragility curves for confined masonry buildings with the emphasis on masonry school buildings by means of numerical simulation. In doing so and based on the results of several previously-performed tests in Iran, simple analytical models for confined masonry walls capable of predicting various failure modes and also simulating different behavioral characteristics of these walls in the form of cyclic force-displacement curves were presented. In order to endure the ability of the proposed analytical models in simulation of seismic response of existing confined masonry buildings, a static-cyclic in-situ test on a real typical...
Evaluation of Seismic Performance of Adobe Dome-roof Structures Retrofitted by Steel Rods and Mesh Using Shaking Table Facility
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bakhshi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Adobe buildings on one hand are very heavy and hence generate great amounts of inertia loads during earthquakes. Their response is also amplified in the high-frequency earthquake waves due to great stiffness. On the other hand, these structures proved vulnerable during past earthquakes because of low strength and ductility. Considering the fact that there are too many structures of this kind throughout the country and a majority of their residents are the poor, seismic retrofitting of these building should be taken as a priority rather than reconstruction. It is obvious that the proposed retrofitting technique should be simple, feasible and economical, as well. Among possible retrofitting...
Minimizing the Number of Breaks in Double Round Robin Tournaments with Different Permutation of Rounds in 2nd Half Season
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salmasi, Nasser (Supervisor)
Abstract
Sports scheduling with its interesting theory and application has been the subject of many research recently. Different problems arise from different league structures with different objectives. Inspired by the structure of soccer leagues in Britain and Netherlands, we study structures in which a different permutation of first half-season rounds is played during second half-season. Some leagues like Premier league in addition to this structure have a special property in which two teams may do not play against each other in the first half-season and play twice in the second half-season. Therefore, we study both structures separately. We present a mathematical model to cover both structures....

Design of Power Amplifier in Ku Band in the Process of GaAs-pHEMT
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Medi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Power amplifiers are used as the last block of transmitters. This block can be categorized as the one of most important part in communication systems. However, in transmitter systems which require high power to create stable link with the receivers, fabrication process like CMOS are unable to provide such level of power. Thus, designers employ another group of integrated circuits which names MMIC that offers this capability to designers. MMIC is the abbreviation of Microwave Integrated Circuit which is implemented in compound substrates like GaAs. Monolithic microwave integrated circuits enable the implementation of amplifiers in small size, large number, with high precision and appropriate...
Real-time Data Aggregationin Wireless Sensor Networks
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recent advancements in wireless communications and also a tendency to use low cost, tiny, and autonomous high performance products have led to the emergence of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). As the main source of power in a sensor node is a limited and irreplaceable battery, energy is the main important issue. Data aggregation, as an in-network processing method, is a promised technique aiming to conserve energy by reducing the number of packet transmissions through the network. It is a key, yet time-consuming functionality in WSNS, where we hold packets in intermediate nodes to promote aggregation efficiency. However, the requirement of real-time communications is becoming more and more...

Distributed Cache Management Using Reinforcement Learning based Strategies
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mir Mohseni, Mahtab (Supervisor) ; Maddah Ali, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, video on demand causes a drastic increase in network traffic that it is expected that network traffic surpasses 45 exabytes per month until 2022; consequently, utilizing distributed memories known as caches across the network to alleviate the communication load during peak hours is inevitable. Coded caching is a promising approach to mitigate and smooth traffic during peak hours in the communication network in a way that it creates coded multicasting opportunities in addition to delivering content to users locally. However, it suffers from imposed delay resulting from coding that makes this approach infeasible for delay-sensitive contents, namely video streaming applications. So...
Simulation of Fluid Aliquoting in Centrifugal Microfluidics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Arghavani, Jamal (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, a numerical analysis of micro chamber filling in centrifugal microfluidics is investigated. In the development of micro total analysis systems, it is often necessary to achieve complete and uniform filling of relatively large micro chambers. With centrifugal devices, these large micro chambers must often be orientated perpendicularly to the direction of centrifugal force and are usually bounded by materials with varying surface properties. On the other hand, the mixing characterization of two fluid by centrifugal microfluidic method has been also conducted. The multiphase flow analyses based on Eulerian-Eulerian approach have been conducted and the VOF method was used for ...
A Deterministic Key Distribution Algorithm for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movaghar, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
The intrinsic properties of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) caused many challenges for these networks. Among these challenges, security is the most important one. Cryptography has many applications as a network securing method. Limitations on memory and processing capability of nodes in an Ad-hoc network makes it almost impossible to use common cryptography algorithms for these networks. Key distribution is the main challenge of cryptography; therefore, it is reasonable to simply the problem of cryptography in an Ad-hoc network to the problem of key distribution. Up to now, different methods are proposed for key distribution in MANETs; each of which has their own weaknesses. For example some...
Predicting the Brain Injury Effects on Physical Arrangement of White Matter Neuronal Tracts using a Finite Element Head Model based on Tractography
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Farahmand, Farzam (Supervisor) ; Shamloo, Amir (Co-Supervisor) ; Oghabian, Mohammad Ali (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Diffuse tensor imaging or tractography is a useful method for tracking the axonal tracts pathways within the brain white matter by monitoring the movements of water molecules along the axons. The higher the level of the tissue anisotropy, the more accurate the pathways can be estimated. But in the swelling regions around an edematous tumor, the excess of watery fluid disrupts the directional movement of water molecules, and consequently, the diffuse tensor imaging is unable to track the pathways. This impairment should be resolved by predicting the axontal tracts arrangement in the blind regions of the images using the numerical modeling. To this end, a finite element model of the human...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor) ; Bagheri, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Conventional two-dimensional photos are images of a three-dimensional scene. In fact, since the recording medium record only the intensity of the incoming light, information about the phase of the light couldn't be recorded and this results in making 2D photos from a real 3D scene.
In this research a mechanism for getting three-dimensional images in endoscopy and laparoscopy by Digital Holography has been designed based on the criteria standards in this field.

Preparation of Nanoparticles Based on Hyperbranched Polyglycerol as Anti Cancer Drug Delivery Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pourjavadi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Adeli, Mohsen (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Successful formulation development for poor water soluble drugs is a critical, long-standing and challengeable problem in cancer treatment. One of the methods for transporting low-soluble drugs is using nanoparticles which are able to pass through capillary walls of tumor tissues due to their small size. An example of the nanoparticles is micelle systems. Functionalized β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) by hyper branched polyglycerol (HPG) can dissolve low-soluble compounds. This polymer can be used in preparing micelles. In this project, β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) by anionic reactions is initiator for polymerization of glycidol monomer. Hydrophobic cavity of the β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) in placing the phenyl...
Numerical Investigation of Instabilities of Flow in Micro-fluid
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
This research concerns investigating the behavior of two-phase flow in the inlet and outlet of the microchannels. Both the droplet based and the continuous microfluidics are considered. For the continuous system whenthe minor fluid enters the microchannel, due to ratio of viscosity of two fluids, viscous folding occurs.Viscous folding phenomena is similar to the buckling phenomena in solids. This means that the viscosity of the fluid, which is applied to two sides of the fluid layer, causes folding the fluid layer and changing the shape of it. For the study we employ a VOF based numerical routine. In order to verify numerical results, the grid and the time step independenciesare checked. In...
