Abstract
Nowdays, because of the promotion and developments of Information technology (IT) and the need for powerful resources for computation and storage, we are the witness of migration from existing computing schemes to the cloud computing and cloud storage environment. As a result, we can see that the client and the IT users are the beneficiaries of the services which are provided by the existing cloud providers. However, the cloud providers are not usually fully trusted and we need to protect the privacy of our sensitive documents. In this case, we should use cryptographic primitives to encrypt our data before outsourcing to the cloud. Searchable encryption and attribute based encryption are two...
Design and Manufacturing Electromagnetic Actuator for Removal Brain Shunt Ventricular Catheter Obstruction
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Hydrocephalus is a desease which causes by unnatural accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain ventricles. One of the most convenient ways to treat hydrocephalus disease is to use a brain shunt which consists of ventricular catheter, valve and distal catheter. Ventricular catheter obstruction is the main reason for shunt replacement in the human brain. This project attempts to remove obstruction of the ventricular catheter by mechanical forces. For this purpose, a magnet and a variable magnetic field suggested to apply mechanical force on a brush sliding on the shunt. On the inner surface of the ring-shaped magnet, brushes have been embedded and the magnet is placed on the outer...
Descriptive Complexity for Counting Problems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimi Boroojeni, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Descriptive complexity refers to the difficulty of expressing a problem in a formal language, allowing for a complete and precise description of the problem, including output specifications for function problems. Despite the success of the descriptive approach in computational complexity, this approach has been predominantly used for decision problems. In contrast to decision problems, a counting problem can be considered as a function with the range of natural numbers. This thesis focuses on the examination of counting problems from a descriptive perspective, exploring the connection between their descriptive and computational versions. Toward this goal, weighted logic is utilized to...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Superalloys are widely used in aerospace and power industries due to the good performance at high temperatures for examples gas turbines, steam turbines and aircraft components. In addition to the turbines cobalt-base superalloys are used in medical implants such as knee and hip joints. The main strengths of the superalloys are heat-resistant, retaining their high mechanical and chemical properties at high temperatures, high melting temperatures, high corrosion resistance, resistance to thermal fatigue, thermal shock, creep, and erosion. Because of difficult to machine properties of superalloys, grinding is one of the effective methods for machining superalloys. The surface integrity of the...

Using Game Theory to Battle Jammer in Control Channel of Ad-hoc Cognitive Radio Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Due to both dynamic and opportunistic spectrum access, Cognitive radio networks is a promising solution for spectrum scarcity problem. In cognitive radio networks, users need to have a control channels in order to cooperate for sharing the sensing information, channel sharing and etc. In Ad-hoc cognitive radio networks because of the absence of infrastructure and central nodes, every user runs a distributed algorithm to create a common control channel. If the control channel gets jammed, network’s performance degrades dramatically, therefore the jammer’s target in cognitive radio networks is the control channels to disturb the networks’ performance. The traditional solution to confront...
Study of Dry and Cryogenic Milling of Porous Titanium with the Purpose of Keeping Pores Open
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, titanium and its alloys are the most widely used metals in manufacturing of biomedical implants. But unfortunately, most of bulk (nonporous) titanium alloys implants are facing problems such as stress shielding. If titanium is produced in such a way that has sufficient amount of porosity on the surface and inside of the sample, it provides sufficient space for connection and proliferation of new bone tissues and transmission of body fluids. However, machining of porous titanium causes pore closing. Due to the importance of recognizing the machining mechanism of materials such as porous titanium for manufacturing of implants, in this study micromachining of porous titanium with the...
Estimation of Material Properties and Residual Stress Induced in Metallic Thin Films Synthesized by Thermal Sintering
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Thin films of materials, in order to have magnificent structure and properties, can use in complicated technology such as; electronic, optic and magnetic systems. Printed interconnects can be made by the deposition of suspensions of metal nanoparticles (e.g., silver and gold) followed by thermal sintering. The nanoparticle sintering process involves atomic diffusion resulting in shrinkage. As a result, the interconnects are prone to residual stresses generated during the thermal sintering process. The residual stress can cause cracks and delamination in the thin films and can cause permanent geometrical changes in the underlying substrates which may affect the functionality of the...

Lithium Isotopes Separation by Electrolysis Amalgam by a Continuous Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Outokesh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Ahmadi, Javad (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Lithium has 9 isotopes which two isotopes are stable and remaining isotopes are unstable and have half-life. Lithium stable isotopes include 6Li and 7Li that their abundance is 7.53% and 92.47% respectively. Importance of lighter lithium isotope appears for its small cross section against thermal neutron and producing fusion reactors fuel in nuclear industries. Thermal neutron absorption cross section for 6Li and 7Li are 950 barn and 37 mbarn respectively. Interesting of these isotopes in nuclear industry is due to the large difference in the absorption cross section.6Li compounds implied for tritium producing in coat of nuclear fusion reactor with DT fuel. Following tritium is used in...
Improvement of a Lattice-based Functional Encryption Scheme
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Eghlidos, Taraneh (Supervisor) ; Mohajeri, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Functional Encryption (FE) is an advanced public key encryption primitive that allows fine-grained control over encrypted data. In many applications, we need to embed an access policy into the secret keys, and also during decryption, only the result of a linear function on the data is revealed, not the data itself. Although FE schemes for general functionalities are proposed, these schemes are either not efficient or their security relies on non-standard assumptions. So far, two attribute-based inner-product functional encryption (AB-IPFE) schemes for inner-product of short integer vectors with security upon LWE assumption has been proposed, which makes them post-quantum secure. These...
Impact of Free Trade on Technological Heterogeneity across Countries: The Case of OECD European Members
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abedini, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Although technological specialization has been recognized as a stimulating factor of international trade (Ricardian theory), new approaches emphasize the endogeneity of technological heterogeneity across countries. Following them, we proceed to examine the effect of free trade on technological differences among 20 OECD members during 1996-2008. We first use the model of Eaton and Kortum (2002) to obtain an annual estimate of technological heterogeneity within the OECD group. We then analyze the behavior of this index facing international trade statistics in the same period. The results show that the OECD countries have been experienced a technological convergence, thanks to a boost in the...
Approximation Algorithms for the Matroid-Constraint Maximum Subdeterminant
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimi Brojeni, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
let Mn n be a positive semmi definite matrix and M:= (U; B) be a matroid. Consider the problem of finding S 2 B such that det(MS;S) is maximized, in witch MS; S is the submatrix of M, restricted to rows and columns of S. This problem has a variety of applications including page ranking algorithms. The problem above is an NP-hard problem in the general case. However, there are several approximating and estimating algorithms for some special cases, which are interesting. Also, exactly solving the problem is NP-hard, even for some special matroids. As an example, one can consider the uniform matroids. Khachiyan introduced a greedy algorithm with dd approximation factor. Afterward, Di summa et...
Analysis and Improvement of Private Set Intersection Schemes
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohajeri, Javad (Supervisor) ; Salmasizadeh, Mahmoud (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Secure multi-party computation (MPC) enables a group of mutually distrustful parties to compute a joint and agreed upon function of their private inputs without disclosing anything but the corresponding output. One of the most important secure computation protocols is private set intersection (PSI). In PSI, often two or several parties wish to find the intersection of their sets without revealing other non-common elements. There exist some other variants of PSI protocol like PSI cardinality or threshold PSI which in the former only the cardinality of the intersection set is revealed and in the latter the intersection set is revealed if its cardinality is greater (less) than a certain value....
Design and Analysis of Authentication Protocols in Vehicular ad-hoc Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salmasizadeh, Mahmoud (Supervisor) ; Mohajeri, Javad (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Design of anonymous authentication scheme is one of the most important challenges in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET). Most of the existing schemes have high computational and communication overhead and they do not meet security requirements. Recently, Azees et al. have introduced an Efficient Anonymous Authentication with Conditional Privacy-Preserving (EAAP) scheme for VANET and claimed that it is secure. We show that this protocol is vulnerable against replay attack, impersonation attack and message modification attack. Also, we show that the messages sent by a vehicle are linkable. Therefore, an adversary can easily track the vehicles. In addition, it is shown that vehicles face with...
