The effect of acid treatment and calcination on the modification of zeolite X in diesel fuel hydrodesulphurization

    , Article Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering ; Volume 100, Issue 11 , 2022 , Pages 3357-3366 ; 00084034 (ISSN) Karami, H ; Kazemeini, M ; Soltanali, S ; Rashidzadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Faujasite (X, Y) zeolites are considered the main and important catalysts in hydrorefining processes. In order to obtain zeolites with higher acidity and volume of mesopores, post-synthesis modification, dealumination by different pickling techniques (using ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid [EDTA] chelating agent), and thermal treatment (calcination) were employed. The dealumination process led to the removal of the aluminum atoms from the zeolite structure and a rise in acidity while maintaining the zeolite crystalline lattice. X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM),...

    Abstract
In order to make a Na–Y zeolite with Si/Al ratio of 2.27 more acidic with a higher volume of mesopores, a combination of different and consecutive methods including; chemical (i.e.; utilizing different compounds, such as NH4F and EDTA) and thermal/hydrothermal (i.e.; implementing calcination/steaming) methods, were employed for modification and dealumination. The combination of acidic-hydrothermal dealumination method led to a further structural collapse compared to that of the acidic calcination. In comparison with the other dealumination methods, the fluorination strategy (i.e.; utilizing NH4F) resulted in a zeolite with higher crystallinity, acidity, and specific surface area. The...

    Abstract
In this paper, a new configuration of a solar combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) system is proposed to recover the waste thermal energy of a steam power plant, which provides the cooling and heating needs of an apartment complex located in Tehran. The required energy of the system is supplied by the parabolic trough solar collectors (PTCs) and, if necessary, an auxiliary heater is also used. An ejector refrigeration cycle (ERC) and a steam Rankine cycle are used for cooling and power generation, respectively. The cycle is dynamically modeled over a year using a TRNSYS-EES co-simulator. It is found that the highest Rankine cycle efficiency is obtained in the cold months (January)...

    Abstract
Neurological diseases have different etiological causes. Contemporary, developing an ef-fective treatment for these diseases is an ongoing challenge. Cell therapy is recognized as one of the promising solutions for the treatment of these diseases. Amongst various types of stem cells, bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC) are known to be the most widely used stem cells. These cells are endowed with appealing properties such as the ability to differentiate into other cell types, including the muscle, liver, glial, and nerve cells. In this review study, we have systematically evaluated the ability of a variety of chemical compounds used in the last ten years to differentiate...

    Abstract
Solar systems are the most promising technologies to reduce building energy consumption. In recent years, one of the popular solar technologies is building integrated photovoltaic-thermal collectors, because of profitability and no need for separate architectural space. In this study, a new combination of glazed building integrated photovoltaic thermal solar collectors and an absorption cooling system, as a trigeneration system, to provide thermal and electrical energy demands of a case study residential building, is proposed. Dynamic simulation of the proposed system is performed using the TRNSYS-MATLAB co-simulator. Because there is no model for the glazed photovoltaic thermal solar...

Design of a continuous fractional-order nonsingular terminal sliding mode control with time delay estimation for fes control of human knee joint

    , Article 7th International Conference on Control, Instrumentation and Automation, ICCIA 2021, 23 February 2021 through 24 February 2021 ; 2021 ; 9780738124056 (ISBN) Karami, M ; Abbasi, M ; Vossoughi, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The design of a novel Continuous Fractional-Order Nonsingular Terminal Sliding Mode controller is the focus of this study. Time Delay Estimation technique is incorporated into the controller. The proposed method is responsible for controlling the human knee joint neuromusculoskeletal model via Functional Electrical Stimulation. A second-order nonlinear model with time-varying coefficients is used for characterizing the FES-stimulated neuromusculoskeletal model. The presence of time-varying coefficients often complicates precise control of knee joint through FES and impairs the performance of conventional methods. To this end, the TDECFONTSM has been proposed consisting of three components, a...

Analysis of frequency-dependent network equivalents in dynamic harmonic domain

    , Article Electric Power Systems Research ; Volume 193 , 2021 ; 03787796 (ISSN) Karami, E ; Hajipour, E ; Vakilian, M ; Rouzbehi, K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Rational function-based models have proved to be very efficient for accurate frequency-dependent modeling of power system components. These models are able to characterize the components terminal behaviours (analysing the admittance matrix) for nodal analysis. This provides a fast convergence and inherent stability to the solution routine of the model. This work presents a general framework for interfacing the dynamic phasor method to the rational models. That would be promising for the electromagnetic transient analysis (under harmonic distortion), in the frequency domain. Therefore, Y-element rational pole-residue models (employing the vector fitting method) are developed. Moreover, the...

    Abstract
Anemia is a globally widespread condition in women and is associated with reduced economic productivity and increased mortality worldwide. Here we map annual 2000–2018 geospatial estimates of anemia prevalence in women of reproductive age (15–49 years) across 82 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), stratify anemia by severity and aggregate results to policy-relevant administrative and national levels. Additionally, we provide subnational disparity analyses to provide a comprehensive overview of anemia prevalence inequalities within these countries and predict progress toward the World Health Organization’s Global Nutrition Target (WHO GNT) to reduce anemia by half by 2030. Our results...

    Abstract
The safe, highly effective measles vaccine has been recommended globally since 1974, yet in 2017 there were more than 17 million cases of measles and 83,400 deaths in children under 5 years old, and more than 99% of both occurred in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)1–4. Globally comparable, annual, local estimates of routine first-dose measles-containing vaccine (MCV1) coverage are critical for understanding geographically precise immunity patterns, progress towards the targets of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), and high-risk areas amid disruptions to vaccination programmes caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)5–8. Here we generated annual estimates of routine childhood...

    Abstract
Background: While there is a long history of measuring death and disability from injuries, modern research methods must account for the wide spectrum of disability that can occur in an injury, and must provide estimates with sufficient demographic, geographical and temporal detail to be useful for policy makers. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2017 study used methods to provide highly detailed estimates of global injury burden that meet these criteria. Methods: In this study, we report and discuss the methods used in GBD 2017 for injury morbidity and mortality burden estimation. In summary, these methods included estimating cause-specific mortality for every cause of injury, and then...

Monte-Carlo-based simulation and investigation of 230 kV transmission lines outage due to lightning

    Abstract
Here, using the probabilistic evaluation based on the Monte Carlo method, back-flashover rate and shielding failure flashover rate of 230 kV overhead transmission lines in the western regions of Iran are evaluated. To such an aim, first, the number of thunderstorm days per year is collected from the reported weather information in order to determine the ground flash density. Then, using MRU-200 equipment, the tower-footing resistance of several towers is measured. Matlab® software is used in order to produce lightning surges considering its probabilistic nature and randomly distribution on the ground to evaluate striking distance based on the geometric model. Then, calculated parameters are...

An N-Path filter design methodology with harmonic rejection, power reduction, foldback elimination, and spectrum shaping

    Abstract
In this paper, an adaptive design methodology for synthesizing a harmonic free N-path filter with reduced frequency folding is presented. System level analysis of proposed architecture shows that by adding a few extra paths with proper weights to a conventional N-path filter, several characteristics such as harmonic rejection, power reduction, foldback elimination and spectrum shaping can be achieved. The designed filter is reconfigurable to be a band-pass filter (BPF) or a band-reject filter (notch), based on the requirements. By using the nth harmonic of Local Oscillator (LO) signal, instead of the fundamental harmonic, the required input clock frequency in N-phase clock generator is...

A novel algorithm in a linear phased array system for side lobe and grating lobe level reduction with large element spacing

    Abstract
Phased array antennas are generally used for the inherent flexibility to beamforming and null-steering electronically. In the phased arrays the side lobes level (SLL) level is main problem which causes waste of energy or saturation of the receiver in the case of presence of the strong spatial blockers. In this paper, a weighting method was first used to reduce the level of SLL. However, this method increased the beam width and reduced resolution, which is not suitable for track applications. In next step hoping to increase the resolution, the distance between the antennas increased. But in this way, grating lobes appeared in the final beam. In fact, the main idea of the article is to solve...

    Abstract
Therapeutic fragmented antibodies show a poor pharmacokinetic profile that leads to frequent high-dose administration. In the current study, for the first time, a novel proline, alanine, serine (PAS) repeat sequence called PAS#208 was designed to extend the plasma half-life of a nanosized anti-vascular endothelial growth factor-A single-domain antibody. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, circular dichroism, dynamic light scattering, and electrophoretic light scattering were used to assess the physicochemical properties of the newly designed PAS sequence. The effect of PAS#208 on the biologic activity of a single-domain antibody was studied using an in vitro proliferation assay. The...

    Abstract
We investigate the resistance of reinforced concrete panels (RCPs) due to explosive loading using nonlinear finite element analysis and surrogate models. Therefore, gene expression programming model (GEP), multiple linear regression (MLR), multiple Ln equation regression (MLnER), and their combination are used to predict the maximum deflection of RCPs. The maximum positive and negative errors, mean of absolute percentage error (MAPE), and statistical parameters such as the coefficient of determination, root mean square error (RMSE). Normalized square error (NMSE), and fractional bias are utilized to evaluate and compare the performance of the models. We also present a novel statistical table...

    Abstract
Background Across low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), one in ten deaths in children younger than 5 years is attributable to diarrhoea. The substantial between-country variation in both diarrhoea incidence and mortality is attributable to interventions that protect children, prevent infection, and treat disease. Identifying subnational regions with the highest burden and mapping associated risk factors can aid in reducing preventable childhood diarrhoea. Methods We used Bayesian model-based geostatistics and a geolocated dataset comprising 15 072 746 children younger than 5 years from 466 surveys in 94 LMICs, in combination with findings of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries,...

Background: Oral rehydration solution (ORS) is a form of oral rehydration therapy (ORT) for diarrhoea that has the potential to drastically reduce child mortality; yet, according to UNICEF estimates, less than half of children younger than 5 years with diarrhoea in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) received ORS in 2016. A variety of recommended home fluids (RHF) exist as alternative forms of ORT; however, it is unclear whether RHF prevent child mortality. Previous studies have shown considerable variation between countries in ORS and RHF use, but subnational variation is unknown. This study aims to produce high-resolution geospatial estimates of relative and absolute coverage of...

    Abstract
This paper examines the use of pre-fabricated interlocking arms/threading in enhancing the strength of friction stir spot welded hybrid joints of AA2219/PP-C30S polypropylene polymer by varying parameter combination. The process involves the fabrication of a pre-threaded hole on the Al alloy prior to the joining process, and the threading/crest-pitch profile aids mechanical interlocking. The peak temperature, crest-pitch interlocked profiles, microstructural and mechanical properties of the joints were examined. The results show that an increase in the tool rotational speed increases the thickness of the reaction layer (between the Al and the polymer substrates), the shear-tensile load...
