, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The corrosion rate of steel (EN 10130 DC-04) in the presence of oleuropein in aqueous corrosive solutions (of different concentrations in 1M and 0.5M hydrochloric acid and also 3.5% sodium chloride) evaluated and results was shown that oleuropein can protect steel surfaces and it acts as good inhibitor. This means that the observations of linear polarization and weight loss experiments showed inhibitor efficiency more than 97% in acidic corrosive medium and above 74% for aqueous solution of 3.5% sodium chloride. Adding oleuropein at different concentrations (i.e. 300 ppm, 700 ppm, and 1000 ppm) to three different types of polymeric paint structures (nitrocellulose alkyd base, acrylic base,...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hosseini Kordkheili, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Tapering the beam along its length may lead to an increase in the voltage density of piezoelectric energy harvester. In this study, the energy harvester voltage with linear variable cross section is studied by developing an analytical method in both linear and nonlinear states. In linear mode, the results are compared with the experimental results. For the development of linear and nonlinear analytic relations, the Euler–Bernoulli beam and linear voltage variations in the thickness direction are used, and for the separation of variables, the mass normalized mode shapes has been used. The results of the linear analytical method are compared with the results of past research and experimental...

Banks Money Creation and the Transmission Mechanism of Shocks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahmoodzadeh, Amineh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Banks are not only money brokers but also money creators. The ability of a bank to create money is due to its unique feature in issuing debts (deposits) that are accepted as a medium of exchange by economic agents. Although this bank function has been discussed under the "liquidity transformation" heading under the micro-banking literature, it has been less discussed in macro literature. In this study, we want to examine the consequences of the bank's liquidity transformation function by developing a New-Keynesian model in which banks can finance the economy by voluntarily expanding their balance sheet. To identify the mechanisms that the money creator bank creates in the model, we have...

Formal Analysis of Ad Hoc Network Protocols Using Process Algebra
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wireless Ad hoc Networks (MANET) are decentrilized networks, without any static infrastructure. In these networks, nodes communicate directly or indirectly via other nodes. They could move arbitrary, which makes the underlying topology dynamic. Therefore, MANET protocols not only should operate correctly, but they should be able to tolerate faults that
may arise due to unreliable wireless communication and unexpected changes in the underlying topology, while the quality of service metrics in benchmarks are satisfied. Therefore a unified framework for verification and evaluation of MANET protocols would alleviate the design process of such protocols. In this thesis, we provide a formal...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nasiri, Habibollah (Supervisor)
Abstract
Natural hazards such as earthquake take many lives each year and cause significant damages to infrastructures such as transportation networks. Whether after occurrence of a natural disaster like storm in order to evacuate, or after an abrupt event such as earthquake in order to provide emergency measures, a transportation network should maintain its functionality and performance in an acceptable degree and should recover in an effectively short period of time. In this study, the link or the set of links which their removal causes significant damage to the transportation network are identified. A specific index (N-Q index) has been used to describe the performance of the network. In addition,...

Forty two numbers of these sixty two slabs were without any opening and were modeled for different type of concrete strength, ratio of length/wide for slabs, type of FRP, number...
Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Vertical Variation of Stem Density on Flow and Vertical Transport
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamali, Mirmosaddegh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Presence of emergent vegetation can change the governing forces in flow through such systems and affects the turbulence structure and scalar transport. On the other hand, vertical variation of physical characteristics of stems, which is fairly observed in reality, leads to variation in frontal area and the called vertical density difference. In this study we experimentally investigate the effect of vertical density difference on both flow and vertical transport of mass. The results will be compared with theoretical predictions.

Techno-Economic Comparison of Different Gas Turbine Inlet Cooling Techniques
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hakkaki Fard, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Inlet air cooling is a simple and economical method to increase the power output of gas turbines. High-pressure fogging systems and mechanical chillers are two common methods. High water consumption, damage to compressor blades by water droplets, and inefficiency in humid climates are disadvantages of high-pressure fogging systems. Mechanical chillers have high electricity consumption and initial costs. In this research, an earth-to-air heat exchanger (EAHE) is introduced as a new method for inlet air cooling of gas turbines and is technically and economically compared with the two common methods in the long term in the climate of Tehran city. Temperature distribution in the ground is...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khodaygan, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fatigue life prediction of a mechanical part is one of issues which a group of engineers are engaged with it and always they try to design the parts with the maximum of lifetime. Although many researches have been done in this field but yet we can see that predicted life are different from that happens in the reality because there are some uncertainties in the phenomena. Our effort in this project is creating an algorithm design so that the parts are designed by it, have the maximum fatigue life and the minimum uncertainty in prediction. In this project we have considered geometrical, material and random loading uncertainties as error resources. Older methods those are presented in this...
