Self Alignment Rolling Bearing Lifetime Prognosis with Damage Mechanics Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Mehdigholi, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The ability to predict the remaining life of bearings is one of main aspects for improvement of reliability of bearings. However, techniques to predict the lifetime of a bearing under the practical operating conditions have not been well developed. In this thesis, prognostic model for bearing systems based on vibration response analysis is considered as a single-degree-of-freedom vibratory system. As the bearing system is considered as a single-degree-of-freedom vibratory system, its acceleration amplitude at the natural frequency can be related to the system stiffness. Moreover, the relationship between failure lifetime, running time and stiffness variation can be established from the...
Online Monitoring of PD in Power Transformers
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vakilian, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
PD detection can be done using on-line or off-line methods. Online PD detection methods have several advantages; such as: increasing system reliability, outage time reduction and higher safety. This method doesn’t need any special high voltage source. When on line monitoring is carried out for PD measurement, the noises in the environment and the electromagnetic interference (EMI) make it difficult to detect the PD signal. Therefore de-noising should be employed to filter out the interferences involved in the detected signal. In this thesis wavelet transform is introduced for this purpose. In this method, the background noise in the site of measurement is recorded as a reference noise to be...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)Determination of Eddy Current Losses in Power Transformer Tank and Analysis of Methods for Reduction of These Losses
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehranifard, Ali (Supervisor) ; Vakilian, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The leads with heavy current passing through the covering plates, and the winding in a transformer, are sources of eddy current losses. Due to this loss some regions of tank wall are subject to serious local overheating. It affects the safety and reliability of this expensive bject and power delivery.Heavy current in large power transformers and special type transformers give rise to a concentrated passage of eddy currents which in turn cause high local losses and overheating in the metallic parts especially in the steel tank walls of transformer. This local overheating is dangerous for transformer oil and the solid insulations. Therefore the calculation of losses and proper design of...

Abstract
The Dye-sensitizers loading on TiO2 is decreasing the electron excitation energy and therefore improving the photocatalytic performance from the increasing the sensitivity under visible light irradiation.in this project CoPCTS , Mordant dye and N3(Ruthenium 535) used as dye-sensitizers. Also The addition of VIII group metals on TiO2 is improving the photocatalytic activity that increasing the photocatalytic reaction rate because of the intermediation role of them for moving the conduction band electrons to electron acceptors and increasing the pair electron-holes long-life that in this case Pt loading used as a VIII group metal. In this project Titanium Isopropoxide as a precursore and...
A Numerical Study of Bearing Capacity Factors for Shallow Foundations
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Determination of ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations has been discussed since long time ago in many books and papers. Although this is not generally a new problem, there are still some problems which may be interesting to be investigated in detail using suitable computer programs and by application of appropriate soil models. Comprehensive surveys on bearing capacity coefficients of different foundations have been done by utilizing FLAC software. The failure of soil is governed by the Elasto-Plastic Mohr-coulomb criterion. New graphs and equations have been developed for determining the coefficients. The equations achieved in this study by numerical methods, have been compared...
Lifetime Prediction of Rolling Element Bearings using Adaptive Algorithms Based on their Vibration Trends
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Rolling element bearings are the most widely used components in rotating machinery and so, estimation of their remaining useful lifetime in order to increase the reliability and availability of them is a critical issue in the field of condition monitoring of these machinery. Despite numerous researches which have tried to develop a model for precise prediction of rolling element bearings’ lifetime, there is no method which can predict their remaining lifetime exactly. The failure criterion in these components is the area of defect in their races and rolling elements. Consequently, an approach which can predict the defect area of these components is susceptible to prediction of their...

Abstract
According to the environmental lows and standards, wastewater of petroleum industries such as refineries and petrochemical that include many petroleum compounds like aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, must be treated up to desirable limit, before entering the collecting network. Using microorganisms is one of the fundamental ways of biodegradation of these polluted compounds. Since phenolic compounds are the main components of raw petroleum, strains that are capable of tolerating phenol and usage of this poisonous hydrocarbon are specifically important. Therefore, in this study the potentiality of the indigenous thermophilic bacterium Nocardia otitidiscaviarum strain TSH1, for degradation...

Calculation and Distribution of Transmission Loss in Restructured Power Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The electric power industry is experiencing important changes brought about by the deregulation. Electric power generators and users engage in power transactions which take place over the transmission system and create losses. Transmission losses represent up to 1⎯5% of the total generation, and cost millions of dollars per year. Consequently, the problem of “who should pay for losses” arises and the satisfactory sharing of the transmission system utilization costs among all market participants has become a key issue. Unfortunately, losses are expressed as a nonlinear function of line flows, and it becomes almost impossible to calculate exactly the losses that are incurred by each generator,...
Cracked Rotors Modeling for Vibration Analysis and Control
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Behzad , Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
The main aim of this thesis is to develop a mathematical model for vibration analysis of cracked rotors. This model should be a simple and precise model for prediction of the cracked rotor vibration behavior and suitable for vibration control. In order to create such model, the pure bending of a cracked beam is analyzed at first. This analysis is performed for two different orientations of the crack with respect to the beam and the bending vector. In this section a continuous bending model with continuous model for crack is developed which can predict the full deformation of the cracked beam in bending and can estimate the stress distribution in the beam with good approximation. Comparison...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Effect of utilizing Central Beam Column (CBC) structure on shallow, large span underground spaces excavation is studied. The CBC method focuses on increasing the overall rigidity of tunnel supporting system prior to full face excavation, in which central drift excavation is limited to the dimensions of the central beam and column to reduce disturbances. Constructing the central beam and column structure, the excavation is completed with NATM excavation method in a symmetric manner about centerline. In CBC method on each side of the centerline there is an arch structure composed of the initial lining resting on roof beam on top and bottom beam at the invert. The roof and bottom beams take the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nayebi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Hough transform is frequently used in radar applications. The structure of using this transformation in radars is so that it has been used only in Range radars which transmit short pulses and their primary goal is to make better estimation of the range of the targets. In this work, we introduce the ways in which we can use the Hough transform in Doppler radars which transmit long pulses and their primary goal is to make better estimation of target doppler. We must use Hough transform in time-doppler domain for this class of radars including continuous-wave radars. To prepare this time-doppler domain image some time-frequency transform must be applied to the radar received signal and a part...
