Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present a non-linear statistical model to fit and forecast the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) in two-tier heterogeneous cellular networks which consist of macrocells and femtocells. Since in these networks the number and locations of femtocell base stations (FBS) are variable, SINR forecasting can be useful in some areas such as power control and handover management. So far, linear autoregressive (AR)models have commonly been used in forecasting the received signal strength (rss) inmacrocellular networks. However,ARmodelling results in highmean square error (MSE)when data are non-linear. This paper focuses on SINR which takes into account signal...

Abstract
Tehran is one of the most polluted megacities in the world, and based on different studies, vehicular sources are responsible for most of the criteria pollutant emissions in this city. The number of vehicles on the streets has been increased drastically leading to growing amount of emission and this trend is continuing. In order to reduce the amount of vehicular emission, it is vital to investigate the factors affecting vehicles emission in this city. This could help to find efficient solutions to improve the situation. Hence, a low-cost methodology to estimate the vehicular emissions is developed. In this...
Proposed Method for Selecting the Most Suitable Contractor Using Risk Analysis
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mortaheb, Momamad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
At present, with some exceptions, the contracts are awarded based on the least proposed price. The records show that this method has not been successful especially for the infrastructure projects. In other words the projects awarded this way have been completed with time and cost overruns. Most of the times, such projects have not satisfied the stakeholders' expectations or have had problems during operation phase. The goal of this research is to suggest a method for selecting the most suitable contractor, considering the proposed price as well as incorporating the delay and other risks based on Contractors' actual past performance in the completed projects. Before selecting the Contractor,...

Jahn-Teller Effect in Diamond Vacancy Under Stress
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vesaghi, M. A (Supervisor) ; Babamoradi, M (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Electron states of diamond vacancy under stress were studied theoretically. The generalized Hubbard model is used to calculate the electrons energy levels. The results shows that the degeneracy of some levels (T, with triple space degeneracy) reduced to levels with lower degeneracy (E, with double space degeneracy and A, without degeneracy). Besides this spiting of degeneracy the energy of all states changed and therefore the transition energy between these states changed too. Jahn-Teller effect was observed

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, M.T (Supervisor) ; Asghari, M (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, great attention has been devoted to the design of artificial arms. The most crucial problem in such a design is the trajectory of movement. In this paper, a seven degree of freedom arm is modeled and simulated. Also, the optimization method named “Imperialistic Competitive Algorithm” has been modified and better performance of the new version is presented. Energy optimization is performed based on trajectory of the arm with angular velocity, angular acceleration and joint angles using modified imperialistic competitive algorithm (ICA). Considering ICA as a fast optimization algorithm, it would be reasonable to use this algorithm for robotic purposes for online answering. The...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movahedi, Mohamad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Selective laser sintering is a technique which uses a laser as the power source to sintering some selected points at a bed of powder in order to create a solid structure. In this research the SLS mechanisms of powder deposition is simulated and surface smoothness and layer density created by each mechanism is computed. For this purpose roller, blade and hopper mechanisms are simulated. For this simulation, polyamide 12 (PA2200) which is a common material is used. In this simulation at first powder specifications are extracted according to the references and for particle shape instead of using the spherical particle shape we use a certain shape that is more close to reality which created by...

Abstract
We present a new method for modeling and design of photonic crystal nano-beam resonators (PCNBRs) based on cascaded transmission lines. The proposed model provides an accurate estimate of the PCNBRs properties such as resonance wavelength and quality factor (Q) with much smaller computation cost as compared to the brute-force numerical methods. Furthermore, we have developed a straightforward technique for the design of high-Q PCNBRs based on resonance modes with Gaussian electromagnetic field profiles. The results obtained by using the proposed transmission line model are compared against numerical and experimental results and the accuracy of the model is verified. The proposed model...

Abstract
A practical approach to prevent location-based attacks in RFID systems is the use of Distance Bounding (DB) protocols. These protocols enable an entity to determine an upper bound on the physical distance to another entity as well as to authenticate it. It makes, rejection of the requests located out of this distance limitation. So far, many DB protocols have been designed with the aim of resistance to location-based attacks. In this paper, we propose a unilateral DB protocol using delay concept while sending two random binary challenges. This protocol can resist better than other unilateral DB protocols against mafia and distance fraud attacks. In addition, the proposed protocol can be...
Design considerations for broadband indoor infrared wireless communications systems
, Article International Journal of Wireless Information Networks ; Volume 2, Issue 4 , October , 1995 , pp 223-238 ; 1572-8129 ; Kavehrad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
1995
Abstract
Recently there has been a growing interest in using infrared light for broadband indoor wireless communications. There are two major limitations for establishing a wideband infrared communications link. The first and most important limit is the power requirements of such a link. The second important impairment is the intersymbol interference caused by multipath dispersion. In this paper we address the issue of designing an optimized transmission system to provide the best power efficiency for an infrared link. Important parameters that should be considered for this design and some examples of efficient link designs are discussed. The suggested designs can improve the power efficiency of an...
Analytical model for sight distance analysis on three-dimensional highway alignments
, Article Transportation Research Record ; Issue 1523 , 1996 , Pages 1-10 ; 03611981 ; Easa, S. M ; Abd El Halim, A. O ; Sharif University of Technology
1996
Abstract
Existing sight distance models are applicable only to two-dimensional (2-D) separate horizontal and vertical alignments or simple elements of these separate alignments (vertical curve, horizontal curve). A new model is presented for determining the available sight distance on 3-D combined horizontal and vertical alignments. The model is based on the curved parametric elements that have been used in the finite element method. The elements presented are rectangular (4-node, 6-node, and 8-node elements) and triangular. These elements are used to represent various features of the highway surface and sight obstructions, including tangents (grades), horizontal curves, vertical curves, traveled...
Holographic diffusers: application for indoor infrared communications
, Article International Journal of Wireless Information Networks ; Volume 4, Issue 4 , 10-01 , 1997 , pp 259-274 ; 1572-8129 ; Simova, E ; Kavehrad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Diffused infrared transmission is one of thepreferred techniques used in indoor wirelesscommunications. Tolerance to shadowing and a lack ofalignment requirements are among the many advantagesoffered by this technique compared to the line-of-sighttechniques. However, it has its disadvantages, namelyhigh path loss and multipath dispersion. The limitationimposed by eye-safety requirements restricts the transmitted power. Therefore, efficient useof transmitted optical power is the key for practicalbroadband infrared systems. In this paper, we report onusing a holographic diffuser for shaping of infrared radiation pattern in an indoorinfrared transmission system. The holographic diffusershave...
Experimental and numerical hydrodynamic modeling of an underwater manipulator
, Article American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Fluids Engineering Division (Publication) FED ; Volume 256 , 2000 , Pages 291-296 ; 08888116 (ISSN) ; Tehranian, A ; Meghdari, A ; Sadeghipour, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology
2000
Abstract
This paper presents the kinematics and dynamic modeling of a three-link (3-DOF) underwater manipulator where the effects of hydrodynamic forces are investigated. In our investigation, drag and added mass coefficients are not considered as constants. In contrast, the drag coefficient is a variable with respect to all relative parameters. Experiments were conducted to validate the hydrodynamic model for a one degree-of-freedom manipulator up to a three degrees-of-freedom manipulator. Finally, the numerical and experimental results are compared and thoroughly discussed

Abstract
Groundwater withdrawal is one of the most important causes of land subsidence all over the world that has caused extremely expensive damages to buildings, walls, roads, railroads, pipelines and casings of the water wells. Rafsanjan Plain has had the most subsidence in Iran. One of the necessary steps to perform a proper analysis for land subsidence is to obtain accurate measurements of actual land subsidence at certain intervals. In this paper, first the latest situation of land subsidence in Rafsanjan plain is described. Secondly the geological, hydrogeological conditions as well as groundwater utilization are explained. Finally the results of two successive measurements carried out...
Multi-Species asymmetric exclusion process in ordered sequential update
, Article Turkish Journal of Physics ; Volume 24, Issue 3 , 2000 , Pages 329-357 ; 13000101 (ISSN) ; Jafarpour, F ; Sharif University of Technology
2000
Abstract
A multi-species generalization of the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) is studied in ordered sequential and sub-lattice parallel updating schemes. In this model, particles hop with their own specific probabilities to their rightmost empty site and fast particles overtake slow ones with a definite probability. Using Matrix Product Ansatz (MPA), we obtain the relevant algebra, and study the uncorrelated stationary state of the model both for an open system and on a ring. A complete comparison between the physical results in these updates and those of random sequential introduced in [20,21] is made

Abstract
The main aim of the present work was the development of a quantitative structure-activity relationship method using an artificial neural network (ANN) for predicting the thermal conductivity detector response factor. As a first step a multiple linear regression (MLR) model was developed and the descriptors appearing in this model were considered as inputs for the ANN. The descriptors of molecular mass, number of vibrational modes of the molecule, molecular surface area and Balaban index appeared in the MLR model. In agreement with the molecular diameter approach, molecular mass and molecular surface area play a major role in estimating the thermal conductivity detector response factor...
