Introducing of Novel Method to Improve the Process of Imaging in a Gamma Camera Equipped with Square PMTs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amir Mozafari Sabet, Kiarash (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Fatemizadeh, Emad (Supervisor) ; Ay, Mohammad Reza (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The gamma cameras, based on scintillation crystal followed by an array of photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), play a crucial role in nuclear medicine. The use of square PMTs provides the minimum dead zones in the camera. The camera with squared PMTs also reduces the number of PMTs relative to the detection area.In this thesis, we introduced a new read-out method whereby the total cost of the read-out board will be decreased by a factor of 2.4; in return, the energy and spatial resolution of the system will be reduced by 0.3% and 0.4% respectively. We also implemented a positioning module in the FPGA chip via that the transmission rate between FPGA and the computer will be tripled, and the...

    Abstract
TiO2–graphene (TiO2–GR) nanocomposites were synthesized using photocatalytic reduction method. TiO2–GR nanocomposites were thereafter doped with noble metals (Pt and Pd) by chemical reduction of the corresponding cations. The samples were characterized by different techniques. The addition of GR to TiO2 decreases the crystalline size of TiO2 due to the homogeneous dispersion of the TiO2 nanoparticles on GR sheets and prevention of coagulation of TiO2 nanoparticles during synthesis process. In addition, the surface area of TiO2 was increased by addition of GR and deposition of noble metals which helps to prevent agglomeration of graphene sheets and TiO2 nanoparticles. Red shifts to the higher...

Estimation of Reservoir Performance Parameters Using Percolation Approach

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sadeghnejad Limouei, Saeeid (Author) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Shojaei, Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Co-Advisor) ; Rabert King, Peter (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The conventional approach to investigate the reservoir performance is to build a detailed geological model, upscale it, and finally run flow simulation which is computationally very expensive. In addition, during the early stage of life of a reservoir, due to the lake of certain data, this method is usually based on analogues or rules of thumb and not detailed reservoir modelling. Therefore, there is a great incentive to produce much simpler physically-based methodologies. The main focus of this thesis is to use percolation approach to estimate the uncertainty in the reservoir properties. This method considers a hypothesis that the reservoir can be split into either permeable (i.e....

    Abstract
Higher than a standard level, the humidity provides a suitable environment for the pathogenic microorganisms to grow and increases energy consumption for cooling, increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Desiccant air-conditioning (DAC) is an effective method to reduce humidity and energy simultaneously. Conventional desiccants are not suitable for use as a desiccant in building air conditioners, mainly because of high regeneration temperature and other issues such as limited equilibrium capacity and hydrothermal and cyclic instability. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a novel class of porous crystalline materials without the disadvantages of traditional desiccants. They benefit from a huge...
