    Design and Control of a Robotic Arm and Hand with Simulation on Performance

    Abstract
    The set of human arm, forearm, and wrist has the ability of performing very miscellaneous movements which has led to human inspiration for designing sorts of robots for various tasks. The aim of the present study is the design and simulation of a robot, similar to the human hand and arm. In the beginning, a shape-adaptive 2 DOF under-actuated mechanism which is actuated by one motor, is selected as the second and third phalanges of the human finger. Also the first phalanx of the finger moves independently by another motor. By adding a ratchet to the second joint of the finger, with the help of only two actuators, the feasibility of exerting isotropic force to the object in three phalanges...

    Abstract
    Vehicle tracking is an essential requirement of any vision based Intelligent Transportation System for extracting different traffic parameters, efficiently. Handling inter-object occlusion is the most challenging part of tracking as a process of finding and following interested objects in a sequence of video frames. In this paper we present a system, based on code-book background model for motion segmentation and Kalman filter for tracking with a new approach for occlusion. This approach separates occluded vehicles based on longest common substring of chain codes. We use this tracking system to estimate some traffic parameters.     Abstract
    The direction of arrival (DOA) error in dipole 3D arrays is estimated through Monte-Carlo simulations using the standard MUSIC algorithm. Novel 3D geometries are implemented which demonstrate better precision given the same lateral area. The mutual coupling effect is included by changing the search vector in the MUSIC DOA algorithm for the novel 3D geometries. A simple straight forward method is used which does not need complex electromagnetic computations. Simulations show that the proposed method can successfully account for the mutual coupling effects in two dimensional direction finding (both azimuth and elevation angle) with novel 3D array geometries.     Abstract
    The effect of the corona wind on the natural convection at a rectangular channel was investigated experimentally. The results indicate that the natural convection in the absence of electric/corona wind at obtuse angles outperforms than acute angles and keeps improving by increasing the angle. However, the efficiency of the electric/corona wind at acute angles is higher than obtuse angles. Generally, in the presence of electric/corona wind, heat transfer coefficient was increased. The effect of the electric/corona wind was decreased by raising heat flux. This mainly stems from the fact that the temperature gradient raises the thermal boundary layer and reduces the secondary flow power....

    Abstract
    Asymmetric sheet rolling is simulated by using an elastic-plastic arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) finite element method. The ALE finite element approach easily predicts the curvature development due to inequality in work roll/plate surface finish (interface friction) and speed mismatch.     Abstract
    This paper presents a recursive approach for solving kinematic and dynamic problems in snake-like robots using Kane's equations. An n-link model with n-nonholonomic constraints is used as the snake robot model in our analysis. The proposed algorithm which is used to derive kinematic and dynamic equations recursively, enhances the computational efficiency of our analysis. Using this method we can determine the number of additions and multiplications as a function of n. The proposed method is compared with the Lagrange and Newton-Euler's method in three different aspects: Number of operations, CPU time and error in the computational procedures. © 2006 Cambridge University Press

    Growth of thin layers of compound semiconductors such as GaAs and Al x Ga1-x As was obtained by Liquid Phase Epitaxy (LPE) at 838-828 ° C in thickness range of 0.1-4.3 μm which was estimated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). By Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) measurements, type of impurity atoms and their density and uniformity with respect to thickness were measured.
