Role of CdO addition on the growth and photocatalytic activity of electrospun ZnO nanofibers: UV vs. visible light

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Vol. 298, issue , April , 2014 , pp. 147-154 ; ISSN: 01694332 Samadi, M ; Pourjavadi, A ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
(ZnO)1-x(CdO)x nanofibers were fabricated via electrospinning of polymer precursor by subsequent annealing in air. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) showed the smooth and beadless nanofibers and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed the ZnO hexagonal and the CdO cubic structure. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) showed the band gap energy reduction by increasing the amount of CdO in (ZnO)1-x(CdO)x nanofibers that resulted in the photocatalytic activity under the visible light for dye degradation. Under the UV light CdO acted as both electron and hole sink in the (ZnO) 1-x(CdO)x nanofibers and a possible photocatalytic activity...

Quasi-optimal EASI algorithm based on the Score Function Difference (SFD)

    , Article Neurocomputing ; Volume 69, Issue 13-15 , 2006 , Pages 1415-1424 ; 09252312 (ISSN) Samadi, S ; Babaie Zadeh, M ; Jutten, C ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
Equivariant adaptive separation via independence (EASI) is one of the most successful algorithms for blind source separation (BSS). However, the user has to choose non-linearities, and usually simple (but non-optimal) cubic polynomials are applied. In this paper, the optimal choice of these non-linearities is addressed. We show that this optimal non-linearity is the output score function difference (SFD). Contrary to simple non-linearities usually used in EASI (such as cubic polynomials), the optimal choice is neither component-wise nor fixed: it is a multivariate function which depends on the output distributions. Finally, we derive three adaptive algorithms for estimating the SFD and...

Forecasting Financial Market Case Study: Tehran Stock Market

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samadi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Modarres Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we examine different forecasting methods to predict volatility in financial markets. Tehran Exchange Price Index (TEPIX) is adapted to forecast in short and long term periods. TEPIX is the most important index in Tehran Stock Market which is officially reported daily. Autoregressive Integrated Moveing Average models (ARIMA), Generalaized Autoregressive Heteroskedastic models (GARCH) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are used for forecasting TEPIX. Spectral Analysis is also regarded as a completely new approach in financial mathematics to forecast TEPIX in short and long term periods. We consider different criteria to compare the performance of different methods of...

Modeling security protocols using operational semantics

    , Article ICEIT 2010 - 2010 International Conference on Educational and Information Technology, Proceedings, 17 September 2010 through 19 September 2010, Chongqing ; Volume 3 , 2010 , Pages V3179-V3185 ; 9781424480340 (ISBN) Samadi, M ; Mahrooghi, H ; Movaghar, A ; Faraahi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper we develop a formal semantics of security protocols. Its main virtue is that it is a generic model, in the sense that it is parameterized over e.g. the intruder model. Further characteristics of the model are a straightforward handling of parallel execution of multiple protocols, locality of security claims, the binding of local constants to role instances, and explicitly defined initial intruder knowledge. We validate our framework by analyzing the Needham-Schroeder-Lowe protocol

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1217, Issue 45 , November , 2010 , Pages 7017-7023 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Karimi, M ; Sereshti, H ; Samadi, S ; Parastar, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-selective ion monitoring (GC-MS-SIM) was applied to the determination of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in water samples. The effect of main parameters affecting the extraction efficiency was studied simultaneously. From selected parameters, volume of extraction solvent, volume of dispersive solvent, and salt concentration were optimized by means of experimental design. The statistical parameters of the derived model were R 2=0.9987 and F=17.83. The optimal conditions were 42.0μL for extraction solvent, 0.30mL for disperser solvent and 5% (w/v) for sodium chloride. The calibration linear range...

Tensor Categories Equipped with General Fiber Functors

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Einollahzadeh Samadi, Mostafa (Author) ; Jafari, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The classical theory of Tannakian categories concerns tensor categories with fiber functors over the categories of vector spaces. Our main problem in this thesis, is to investigate the case of fiber functors to more general tensor categories. More precisely, suppose F : C → D be a fiber functor (i.e. k-tensor exact) between two k-tensor categories, over a field k. Then does there exist a Hopf algebra A in D, naturally associated with F, such that C is equivalent to the category of comodules over A, and F becomes equal under this equivalence to the forgetful functor from the category of comodules over A to D?We will show that the answer is affirmative for semisimple categories D,if F has a...

Aluminum solvate complexes forming in acidic methanol-acetone mixtures studied by 27Al NMR spectroscopy

    , Article Journal of Solution Chemistry ; Volume 38, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 159-169 ; 00959782 (ISSN) Samadi Maybodi, A ; Pourali, S. M ; Tafazzoli, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
27Al NMR spectroscopy is a powerful tool for the study of coordination and solvation in both aqueous and nonaqueous solutions. In this study, the complexes coexisting upon dissolution of AlCl3 in acidic acetone + methanol solutions are shown to consist essentially of mixed hexacoordinated species of the general formula [Al(CH3OH) 6-n (CH3COCH3) n ]3+ (n=1,2 and 3), all exhibiting distinctly different 27Al shielding effects. The relative populations of the various mixed species are found to be highly dependent upon the acetone:methanol mole ratio that in the more acetone-rich mixtures with aluminum become appreciably coordinated by acetone. The results demonstrate that the key factor for the...

The effect of additives on the properties of HAp-Al2O3nano-composite powders

    , Article Journal of Ceramic Processing Research ; Volume 17, Issue 10 , 2016 , Pages 1033-1041 ; 12299162 (ISSN) Tayebi, S ; Mirjalili, F ; Samadi, H ; Nemati, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Hydroxyapatite is the most important bio ceramic, due to its structure and chemical composition which is similar to bone. Since feeble fracture toughness, brittleness and low tensile strength have restricted their use, for overcoming this problem, they were often used as a secondary component. HAp-Al2O3 nano-composite powder combined the benefits of biocompatibility of HAp and high strength of Al2O3. When HAp-Al2O3 nano-composite powders were sintered at a higher temperature than 1100- 1200°C, HAp was decomposed and converted to the second phase of TCP, due to the formation of calcium aluminate increasing decomposition speed of HAp to TCP at higher degree than 1100-1200°C temperatures;...

Priodically Driven Floquet Systems and Time Crystals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Einollahzadeh Samadi, Moien (Author) ; Langari, Abdolla (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent experimental progress in approximating closed quantum many-body systems such as ultra-cold atomic gases, has leads to surge of interest in the dynamics of closed quantum systems. In addition, driving a closed quantum system out of its equilibrium can create an appropriate conditions in order to archive novel phases of matter such as discrete Time-Crystals.In the present work, following a brief introduction, we start with basic principles of the Floquet theory. According to the matrix representation of the Floquet theory, we examine solutions of a quantum system which is driven by external periodic perturbation. We then turn to study of thermalization in closed quantum system and...

Modeling the Burst Pressure of Offshore Pipelines with Extensive Internal Corrosion in the Free Span

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samadi Mal Amiri, Farzam (Author) ; Raie, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Internal corrosion is one of the most common defects in pipelines. In recent decades, the use of offshore natural oil and gas resources has increased dramatically, followed by the use of offshore pipelines to transport products. At the same time, numerous accidents and explosions in offshore pipelines and their economic and environmental consequences underscore the importance of ensuring safe operation. Pipeline integrity management has been developed to ensure the safe and correct operation of pipelines. Integrity management starts with planning, then leads to inspection, then evaluation, and finally to corrective action, and this loop is repeated regularly. In this loop, the importance of...

    Abstract
This paper presents the results of experimental and analytical study on a new technique of seismic retrofitting of concrete columns. In this technique, standard strapping devices, which are used in the packaging industry, are used to post-tension metal strips around concrete columns. The two ends of the strip are tightened in sealed clamps to maintain the pre-stress force in the strip. Experimental program included axial compressive tests on 30 cylindrical as well as 30 prismatic small-scale columns which were actively confined by pre-stressed metal strips. Longitudinal and lateral strain of concrete and strain in the strips were monitored. Test Results showed significant increase in...

Blind source separation of discrete finite alphabet sources using a single mixture

    , Article IEEE Workshop on Statistical Signal Processing Proceedings, 28 June 2011 through 30 June 2011, Nice ; June , 2011 , Pages 709-712 ; 9781457705700 (ISBN) Rostami, M ; Babaie Zadeh, M ; Samadi, S ; Jutten, C ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper deals with blind separation of finite alphabet sources where we have n sources and only one observation. The method is applied directly in time (spatial) domain and no transformation is needed. It follows a two stage procedure. In the first stage the mixing coefficients are estimated, and in the second stage the sources are separated using the estimated mixing coefficients. We also study restrictions of this method and conditions for which its performance is acceptable. Simulation results are presented to show the ability of this method to source separation in images and pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) signals

    Abstract
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) cause many significant ecological problems because of their low degradability, high harmfulness, and solid bioaccumulation. Two bacterial strains were isolated from soil that had been polluted with electrical transformer liquid for more than 40 years. The isolates were distinguished as Lysinibacillus macrolides DSM54Tand Bacillus firmus NBRC15306Tthrough 16S rRNA sequencing analysis. This is the primary report of an agent of the genus Bacillus firmus equipped for the removal of PCBs. The strains could develop broadly on 2-Chlorobiphenyl and 2,4-dichlorobiphenyl. GC/MS analysis of individual congeners revealed up to 80% degradation of the xenobiotics in 96h,...

A new routing algorithm for irregular mesh NoCs

    , Article 2008 International SoC Design Conference, ISOCC 2008, Busan, 24 November 2008 through 25 November 2008 ; Volume 1 , 2008 , Pages I260-I264 ; 9781424425990 (ISBN) Samadi Bokharaei, V ; Shamaei, A ; Sarbaziazad, H ; Abbaspour, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Network-on-Chips (NoCs) usually use regular mesh-based topologies.Regular mesh topologies are not always efficient because of power and area constraints which should be considered in designing system-on-chips.To overcome this problem, irregular mesh NoCs are used for which the design of routing algorithms is an important issue. This paper presents a novel routing algorithm for irregular mesh-based NoCs called "i-route". In contrast to other routing algorithms, this algorithm can be implemented on any arbitrary irregular mesh NoC without any change in the place of IPs. In this algorithm, messages are routed using only 2 classes of virtual channels. Simulation results show that using only 2...

    Abstract
In this paper, an adaptive algorithm for blind source separation in linear instantaneous mixtures is proposed, and it is shown to be the optimum version of the EASI algorithm. The algorithm is based on minimization of mutual information of outputs. This minimization is done using adaptive estimation of a recently proposed non-parametric "gradient" for mutual information. © Springer-Verlag 2004

New Achievable Rates In Frequency Hopped Spread Spectrum Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aref, Vahid (Author) ; Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In  this  dissertation,  we  investigate  the  frequency  hopped  spread  spectrum  systems  which are extensively used in many communication systems. We derive the capacity region  of  Synchronous  Frequency  Hopped  Multiple  Access  (FHMA)  channels  (for  any  kind of noisy or nonselective fading environment) by using the side information which exists in the multi‐user detection. We assume that random hopping patterns are used by all the transmitters, and the common receiver knows the hopping patterns. We also compute  the  capacities  of  FHMA  with  and  without  power  control  for  AWGN  and  noiseless MFSK (in particular BFSK) modulated systems and compare the ...

    Abstract
In this work, phosphorus-31 and aluminum-27 nuclear magnetic resonance techniques were used to characterize the distribution of soluble aluminophosphate species in methanol + water and ethanol + water mixtures. The assignment of the peaks to alu-minate species was attempted, clarifying earlier work and producing information on the different aluminophosphate complexes. Nine peaks were observed at -0.41, -6.4, -7.5, -7.9, -13.1, -13.9, -16.6, -18.1 and -20.6 ppm. Four new peaks appeared in the 31P NMR spectra of the alcoholic aluminophosphate solutions and their intensities changed with changes of the alcohol:water volume ratio. These new peaks were observed in the presence of methanol or...
