Harmonic Analysis of Brushless Doubly-Fed Machines

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Oraee, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Brushless Doubly-Fed Machine (BDFM) is a machine which incorporates the robustness of the squirrel cage induction machine and the speed and power factor control of a synchronous machine. All of these advantages are obtainable from a relatively low rating power electronic converter (e.g. 30 % of the machine’s rating). The stator of a BDFM is furnished with two balanced three phase windings of conventional design (power and control winding). These windings differ in pole number and are often excited at different frequencies. Hence, there is no direct magnetic coupling between them. The power winding is connected to a constant-voltage, constant-frequency source and the control winding is...

    Abstract
Protein capturing on polymeric substrate of microfluidic devices is a key factor for the fabrication of immunoassay with high sensitivity. In this work, simple and versatile technique of electrospinning was used to produce electrospun nanofibrous membranes (e.NFMs) with high surface area as a substrate for microfluidic-based immunoassay to increase sensitivity. It was found that the simultaneous use of e.NFM and 1-Ethylethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide/N-Hydroxysuccinimide hydroxysuccinimide as coupling agent has synergic effect on antigen immobilization onto the microchannels. It was found that the oxygen plasma technique for the creation of oxygen containing functional group...

A Micromechanical Study of Implants via Eigenstrain Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Kasra (Author) ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, concerning Eigenstrain Theory, the micromechanical formulation of dental implants has been derived for the first time in the fields of Mechanics and Medical Science. The proliferation of using dental implants as a prosthesis for the people who lost their teeth because of poor maintenance and smoking cigarette results in scientists think more about the design of these implants and their stress fields inside the mandible. It is crystal clear that these stress fields cause stress shielding, which is a phenomenon that brings about bone loss or decrement in the bone density. Hence, if we know the stress that is produced by the implants inside the mandible, we can optimize the...

Effect of Nano Semiconductor Photocatalyst on Bacteria

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani Salehabadi, Mehdi (Author) ; Vossoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the recent years, nanophotocatalytic process for E. coli inactivation has become considerable choice for water treatment. Having suitable catalytic characterizations, nanophotocatalysis could be considered as an alternative to current E. coli disinfections methods.
In this study, antibacterial effect of Fe-Cd/TiO2 (TiO2 doped with Fe and Cd) under visible light was reported for the first time. The Results show that by comparing Fe-Cd/TiO2 with commercial TiO2 (P25 Degussa), bactericidal efficiency of this codoped photocatalysis under visible light is high and effective. Indeed, Nanoparticle of Fe-Cd/TiO2 disinfects E. coli (cell density: 107 CFU/ml) almost completely within 55 min...

Studying the Behavior Factor of 3D Steel Split-Level Moment-Resisting Frames

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani-Babakamali, MohammadHesam (Author) ; Khansari, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Observation made after previous earthquakes revealed that irregular structures had shown unfavourable performance compared to their regular counterparts. In general, structural irregularities are classified into two categories, “irregularity in plan,” and “irregularity in elevation (height).” In order to investigate the effects of irregularities on the “response modification factor,” three types of 3-D steel structures were studied, namely type 1: regular ones, type 2: split-level ones (having irregularity in elevation), and type 3: irregular in plan as a result of having eccentricities of 5%, 10%, and 20% between the centers of mass and rigidity. All the studied frames were initially loaded...

Attitude Determination Using GPS Carrier Phase and Doppler Measurements

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Hassan Ali (Author) ; Ghanbarpour Asl, Habib (Supervisor)
    Abstract
By using of raw measurements of GPS receivers including carrier phase and Doppler frequency we can estimate attitude parameters of a platform on which the receivers are installed in a proper orientation. In this research attitude parameters are estimated based on quaternions. To this end a discrete Kalman filter was designed to predict the attitude parameters by using of carrier phase double difference measurements and then update the predicted parameters by using of Doppler frequency double difference measurements. Doppler frequency measurements were used to estimate the quaternion rates which are used in update step of Kalman filter algorithm. A robust algorithm for carrier phase ambiguity...

    , Article 2017 14th International ISC (Iranian Society of Cryptology) Conference on Information Security and Cryptology, ISCISC 2017, 6 September 2017 through 7 September 2017 ; 2018 , Pages 86-92 ; 9781538665602 (ISBN) Soleimani, A ; Mirmohseni, M ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2018
    Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the achievable secrecy rate in a relay channel where the source and the destination wish to keep the information confidential from an untrusted relay (potential eavesdropper). The relay has no energy supply, and harvests its required energy for relaying from its received signals. For radio-frequency (RF) Energy Harvesting (EH) at the relay, we adopt power splitting (PS) approach. We study the problem of achieving positive secrecy rates between the transmitter and the receiver while making use of an untrusted relay. Energy limitation at the relay makes the problem more interesting. Because, the relay must choose either to eavesdrop the signal to be able to decode...

Order allocation in a multiple-vendor and quantity discount environment: A multi-objective decision making approach

    , Article Management Science Letters ; Volume 8, Issue 10 , 2018 , Pages 975-990 ; 19239335 (ISSN) Hadian, H ; Jahromi, A. E ; Soleimani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Growing Science  2018
    Abstract
Integrated supplier selection and order allocation is a complex problem that is important for both designing and operating supply chains. It becomes especially complicated when quantity discounts are considered at the same time. Under such circumstances, most studies often formulate the problem as a Multi-Objective Linear Programming problem (MOLP), and then transform it to a Mixed Integer Programming problem (MIP) to handle the inherited multi-objectives, simultaneously. But, objectives are not of equal importance and in this approach scaling and subjective weighting often are not considered. In addition, some of the studies that use weighting method to solve the MOLP, usually ignore to...

Springer Science and Business Media B.V  2022
    Abstract
The elastodynamic behavior of layered media consisting of an arbitrary combination of isotropic and transversely isotropic layers is of great importance for many engineering applications. In this work, some appropriate elastodynamic Green’s functions pertinent to both the displacement and the stress fields are devised so that the problems associated with the n-layer semi-infinite and infinite media with any combinations of transversely isotropic and isotropic layers subjected to surface and buried oblique time-harmonic annular loading can all be treated in a unified manner. The material degeneracy arising due to the scenarios where one or more regions are isotropic is also discussed and...

Buckling analysis of three-dimensional functionally graded EulerBernoulli nanobeams based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory

    , Article Journal of Computational Applied Mechanics ; Volume 53, Issue 1 , 2022 , Pages 24-40 ; 24236713 (ISSN) Soleimani, A ; Zamani, F ; Gorgani, H. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    University of Tehran  2022
    Abstract
This paper presents a nonlocal strain gradient theory for capturing size effects in buckling analysis of Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams made of threedimensional functionally graded materials. The material properties vary according to any function. These models can degenerate to the classical models if the material length-scale parameters is assumed to be zero. The Hamilton's principle applied to drive the governing equation and boundary conditions. Generalized differential quadrature method used to solve the governing equation. The effects of some parameters, such as small-scale parameters and constant material parameters are studied. © 2022 PAGEPress Publications. All rights reserved

Investigation of Seismic Performance of Self-Centering Eccentrically-braced frame Systems with Vertical Links

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Mona (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Conventional eccentric braced frames often sustain large residual deformations and significant damages after strong earthquakes which may lead to heavy damages or even destruction of the structure. Here, a self-centering, Y-inverted, eccentrically braced frame (SC-YEBF) is proposed which combines the lateral load resisting benefits of YEBF including strength, stiffness and energy dissipation capacity with the re-centering capacity of post-tensioned (PT) high strength steel strands used at beam-to-column connections. A design procedure is presented assuming that all the seismic input energy is dissipated through inherent damping and plastic deformations of the link-beams. Thus, in the...

    A Study On Nuclear C-Algebras

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani Malekan, Meisam (Author) ; Farhadi, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this essay we study the concepts of nuclearity in C-algebras, and amenability in Banach algebras. A proof on the "every amenable C-algebra is nuclear" is studied. A Banach algebra A is called amenable if every continous derivation D : A ! E , is inner i.e. there exists anif in this denition E is a dual Banach A-module and norm continuity replace by w-continuity then we have Connes-amenability; Connes-amenability was rst considered for von Neumann algebras in [J-K-R] (and thus should perhaps be called Johnson-Kadison-Ringrose amenability). The reason why this notion of amenability is usually associated with A. Connes are his papers [Conn 1] and [Conn 2] The name "Connes-amenability" seems...

Effect of Size and Surface Conditions of Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles on Sonodynamic Therapy Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Foad (Author) ; Madaah Hosseini, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, a simple synthesis route was used to obtain Titanium dioxide nanoparticles with aggregates different in size. The purpose was to study the effect of TiO2 nanoparticles size on photocatalytic activity and develop it to sonocatalytic properties. Surface modification with polymeric and/or anionic agents were carried out to stabilize titania nanoparticles in aqueous media with neutral pH, specifically in SBF. Sonocatalytic properties of modified and bare particles were compared to show if the particles may be used in future studies on sonodynamic therapy. Results showed that increment in size of the aggregates, similar to primary particles, lead to lower properties due to...

    Abstract
A numerical study on mixing/segregation phenomena in a pressurized fluidized bed with large particles of Geldart D type of binary density but same diameter with high velocity gas was performed by the use of discrete particle simulation. Particle mixtures are composed of spherical particles with 2mm diameter and 1g/cm3 flotsam density and different jetsam densities of 1.25, 2 and 2.5g/cm3 with jetsam volume fraction of 0.5. The particles are initially packed approaching perfect mixing state in a rectangular bed and then fluidized by gas uniformly injected at the bottom of the bed. Effect of increase of pressure and density ratio was investigated and mixing/segregation behavior is discussed in...

    Abstract
Steady blood flow through a circular artery with rigid walls is studied by COSSERAT Continuum Mechanical Approach. To obtain the additional viscosities coefficients, feed forward multi-layer perceptron (MLP) type of artificial neural networks (ANN) and the results obtained in previous empirical works is used. The governing filed equations are derived and solution to the Hagen-Poiseuilli flow of a COSSERAT fluid in the artery is obtained analytically by Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) and numerically using finite difference method. Comparison of analytical results with numerical ones showed excellent agreement. In addition microrotation and the velocity profile along the radius are...

Monitoring autocorrelated multivariate simple linear profiles

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 67, Issue 5-8 , 2013 , Pages 1857-1865 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Soleimani, P ; Noorossana, R ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Recently, many researchers and practitioners have shown interest on profile monitoring as a relatively new subarea of statistical process control. One main reason for this interest, and perhaps a key factor for the contributions of many researchers to this field, is the various applications of profile monitoring in real life. Although one can easily encounter many univariate applications of profile monitoring in service and manufacturing environments, there exist situations where quality of a product or process needs to be modeled in multivariate terms. In this paper, we investigate monitoring of multivariate simple linear profiles in phase II when independence assumption of observations...
