    Abstract
Ce-doped ZnO nanocomposite thin films with Ce/Zn ratio fixed at optimum value (10 at.%) have been prepared via sol-gel method at different annealing temperatures varied from 180 to 500 °C. The synthesized samples were characterized employing atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. According to AFM analysis, the average grain size increased from about 70 nm to 150 nm by increasing the annealing temperature from 300 to 500 °C. Moreover, based on the XPS data analysis, it was found that three major metal ions namely Ce 3+, Ce4+, and Zn2+ coexist on the surface of the nanocomposite films. XPS data analysis also revealed that...

    Abstract
We study the effect of boron (B) and phosphorous (P) doping and B/P codoping on electronic and optical properties of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4 or GCN) monolayers using density functional simulations. The energy band structure indicates that the incorporation of both B and P into a hexagonal lattice of GCN reduces the energy band gap from 3.1 for pristine GCN to 1.9 eV, thus extending light absorption toward the visible region. Moreover, on the basis of calculating absorption spectra and dielectric function, the codoped system exhibits an improved absorption intensity in the visible region and more electronic transitions, which named π∗ electronic transitions that occurred and were...

    , Article Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment ; Issue 9 , 2006 ; 17425468 (ISSN) Jafari, G. R ; Saberi, A. A ; Azimirad, R ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Rouhani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
We have studied the effect of annealing temperature on the statistical properties of WO3 surface using atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. We have applied both level crossing and structure function methods. Level crossing analysis indicates an optimum annealing temperature of around 400°C at which the effective area of the WO3 thin film is maximum, whereas the composition of the surface remains stoichiometric. The complexity of the height fluctuation of surfaces was characterized by roughness, the roughness exponent and the lateral size of surface features. We have found that there is a phase transition at around 400°C from one set to two sets of roughness parameters. This happens due...

    Abstract
Since ultraviolet (UV) irradiation cannot be applied for a long time in practical applications, it is necessary to develop a narrow band gap photocatalyst to decompose environmental pollutants under visible irradiation. In this research, (WO3)x-(TiO2)1-x nano-porous layers were fabricated by micro arc oxidation (MAO) and influence of the electrical current type on their physical and chemical properties was investigated. Morphological studies, performed by SEM technique, revealed that pore size and roughness decreased with the frequency and increased with the duty cycle. The pulse-grown layers had a finer structure when compared to those fabricated under direct current. XRD and XPS results...

    Abstract
The growth of cobalt silicides layer has been studied in Co/Ta, Co/Ta0.5W0.5 and Co/W bilayers grown on Si(100) substrate. The Co and Ta-W films were deposited using thermal evaporation and sputtering techniques, respectively. All these samples were annealed at a temperature range from 400 to 1000 °C in an N2 (80%)+H2 (20%) environment for 60 min. The phase identification and electrical property of the annealed samples were determined by XRD and RS methods. In the Co/Ta/Si(100) system, we have obtained nearly a single crystalline CoSi2(200) layer with RS value of approximately 0.9 Ω/□ at 900 °C. However, reappearance of Co2Ta phase at 1000 °C exhibits unsatisfactory thermal stability for...

    Abstract
The effect of bias voltages on the statistical properties of rough surfaces has been studied using atomic force microscopy technique and its stochastic analysis. We have characterized the complexity of the height fluctuation of a rough surface by the stochastic parameters such as roughness exponent, level crossing, and drift and diffusion coefficients as a function of the applied bias voltage. It is shown that these statistical as well as microstructural parameters can also explain the macroscopic property of a surface. Furthermore, the tip convolution effect on the stochastic parameters has been examined. © 2005 The American Physical Society

    Abstract
Micro arc oxidation technique, as a facile and efficient process, was employed to grow sulfur doped titania porous layers. This research sheds light on the photocatalytic performance of the micro arc oxidized S-TiO2 nano-porous layers fabricated under pulse current. Morphological and topographical studies, performed by SEM and AFM techniques, revealed that increasing the frequency and/or decreasing the duty cycle resulted in formation of finer pores and smoother surfaces. XRD and XPS results showed that the layers consisted of anatase and rutile phases whose fraction was observed to change depending on the synthesis conditions. The highest anatase relative content was obtained at the...

    Abstract
In this study, titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotube array (TNA) films are fabricated via anodization of titanium (Ti) sheet. After annealing, the films consisted of well ordered, vertically oriented TNAs of 125±6nm diameter, 38±3nm wall thickness, and 2.9±0.3μm in length. Cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles are deposited on the synthesized TNAs by sequential-chemical bath deposition (S-CBD) method with different immersion cycle (n) to produce heterogeneous TNA/CdS-n (n=10, 20 and 30) nanostructures. UV-visible absorption spectra of the samples revealed that the absorption edge of CdS modified TNAs was shifted to a higher wavelength with respect to the pure TNAs indicating band gap reduction of...
