Investigation of The Effect Of Microgravity On Bone Marrow Stromal Cell Growth And Infiltration On An Optimized 3d Structured Scaffold

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Armin (Author) ; Yaghmaei, Soheila (Supervisor) ; Vossoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Haji Ebrahimi, Zahra (Supervisor) ; Janmaleki, Mohsen (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
To develop a novel cell culture method for enhancement of bone marrow stromal cell growth and infiltration into the 3d electrospun PCL-based scaffold, we utilized the RPM system to simulate microgravity. In current study, six different scaffolds are produced using the electrospinningelectrospraying technique. These scaffolds are compared based on their structural (average diameter and SEM micrographs), mechanical (Tensile strength, elongation and wettability) and biological (Biodegradability, bioactivity, biocompatibility, cell adhesion, cell infiltration and antibacterial quality) characteristics. It is noted that the porous nano-hydroxyapatite/titanium hydroxide/polycaprolactone...

Geometrical Fracture Modeling Within Multiple-Point Statistics Framework

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Rouhollah (Author) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Rasaei, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Eskandaridalvand, Kiomars (Supervisor) ; Shahalipour, Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Majority of the oil and gas reservoirs, in the main hydrocarbon production regions around the world, are naturally fractured reservoirs. Fractures play an important role in reservoir fluid flow either in the form of high permeable complex conduits or strong permeability anisotropies. Realistic characterization of naturally fractured reservoirs requires an exhaustive understanding of fracture connectivity and fracture pattern geometry. These subsequently demand description of many fracture parameters such as density (intensity), spacing, orientation, size and aperture. Therefore, a first step in fractured reservoirs characterization is the static geometric modeling of the subsurface fracture...

Experimental Investigation of New Polymers for Enhanced Oil Recovery from one of the Iranian Oil Reservoirs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Torkaman, Mohammad (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Ghazanfari, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor) ; Rasaei, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Polymer flooding is a famous enhanced oil recovery method and is used to reduce mobility ratio of displacing fluid to displaced fluid by forming a stable front in displacing process. Due to high costs, polymer flooding faces economical risks and from this point of view, performance investigation of polymer flooding in laboratory scale was concerned. In this project, performance of 7 types of polymers which have different rheological properties were investigated in fractured/non-fractured carbonated and sandstone reservoirs. These polymers consists of 4 commercial polymers, one branched polymer, one synthetic polymer and one polymer composite which have different molecular weight,...

Synthesis and Evaluation of Nanostructured ZIF-67-Based Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bairami Sorkhehrizi, Zahra (Author) ; Khorasheh, Farhad (Supervisor) ; Ghotbi, Sirus (Supervisor) ; Larimi, Afsaneh Sadat (Supervisor) ; Esmaeilpour, Mohsen (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, due to the decreasing of fossil fuel reserves and the need to use clean fuels, hydrogen is a suitable alternative, and hydrogen production has received considerable attention. One of the best methods of hydrogen production is water splitting. Overall water splitting can be divided into two half reactions including the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), which selecting the appropriate electrocatalyst for these half reactions plays an important role. The four-electron transfer process in OER leads to slow kinetics of the reaction and a large overpotential. The noble metal-based oxides, including IrO2 and RuO2, are known as outstanding OER...

Simulation of Asphaltene Slurry Flow for Oil Dominant Systems in Vertical Wells

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Tavakkoli, Mohammad (Author) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Supervisor) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Co-Advisor) ; Chapman, Walter (Co-Advisor) ; Panuganti, Sai (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In the upstream asphaltene flow assurance community, both academics and industries are actively involved to predict the asphaltene deposit profile in wellbores and pipelines. The main objective of this study is to contribute to the thermodynamic and transport modeling of asphaltene in order to predict its precipitation, aggregation and deposition. For a better knowledge of the flow properties of asphaltene containing crude oils, it is necessary to understand how asphaltene affect the rheological properties. In this work, the information on such rheological properties of oil-asphaltene slurry systems is provided. The results of rheological experiments for two Iranian crude oils show that the...

    Abstract
Zeolite-based Ag/AgBr and Ag/AgBr/TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by sol–gel and deposition methods and were characterized. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by inactivation of Escherichia (E.) coli and the photodegradation of Acid Blue 92 and potassium permanganate. The composites containing Ag/AgBr showed the antibacterial activity in the dark by releasing Ag+ ions into the medium. The results for inactivation of E. coli indicated that Ag/AgBr/TiO2 modified photocatalyst had better antibacterial activity than Ag/AgBr/zeolite, while zeolite and TiO2/zeolite did not show any antibacterial activity under visible light and dark conditions. Photodecolarization rate was affected...

Estimation of Reservoir Performance Parameters Using Percolation Approach

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sadeghnejad Limouei, Saeeid (Author) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Shojaei, Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Co-Advisor) ; Rabert King, Peter (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The conventional approach to investigate the reservoir performance is to build a detailed geological model, upscale it, and finally run flow simulation which is computationally very expensive. In addition, during the early stage of life of a reservoir, due to the lake of certain data, this method is usually based on analogues or rules of thumb and not detailed reservoir modelling. Therefore, there is a great incentive to produce much simpler physically-based methodologies. The main focus of this thesis is to use percolation approach to estimate the uncertainty in the reservoir properties. This method considers a hypothesis that the reservoir can be split into either permeable (i.e....
