, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tahan Zadeh, Samira (Author) ; Purazarng, Kazem (Supervisor) ; Abachi, Parvin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, copper-alumina composite specimens with different reinforcement content were produced in two routes, i.e. in-situ and ex-situ; one specimen as functionally graded material (FGM) was also produced. In first method, copper and aluminum powders were initially alloyed by mechanical alloying route and then the copper oxide powder was added as oxidizer. For the fabrication of Cu-Al2O3 composites using ex-situ method, alumina nano particles powder was added to elemental copper powder. FGM specimen consists of five layers, i.e. pure copper, copper matrix composite having 2, 3, 4, and 5 volume percent alumina. To reduce the particles agglomeration and homogeneous distribution of...

    Abstract
In this study, a transformer model is proposed to simulate the behaviour of a real transformer, under presence ofdifferent types of defects which contribute to partial discharge (PD) generation, as closely as possible. Five different typesof defects (scratch on winding insulation, bubble in oil, moisture in insulation paper, very small free metal particle intransformer tank and fixed sharp metal point on transformer tank) are implemented artificially into these transformermodels to investigate the resultant PD current signal magnitude and characteristics. Time-domain PD currentwaveforms are recorded on those transformer models which have one type of those defects. The resultant statisticalPD...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mehmanchi, Mohammad (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Shokrollahi, Parvin (Supervisor) ; Ataei, Mohammad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Synthetic polymers have a high capacity to provide and manufacture the pieces used in tissue engineering. However, optimizing the biocompatibility, bioresorbableility and mechanical properties simultaneous with processability of material is complicated and requires a lot of effort at designing different parts of the system. On the other hand, due to existence of secondary bonds (such as metal-ligand coordination or hydrogen bond) supramolecular polymers are able to respond to some stimuli such as temperature, pH, or pressure, which is important in terms of dynamic nature of interaction between the living cells and the external matrix of cell. Recently there have been extensive studies on...

    Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) measurement is one of the best methods for condition monitoring of transformers. In this paper, we use 5 different types of defects as follows: scratch on winding insulation, bubble in oil, moisture in insulation paper, a very small free metal particle in the transformer tank, and a fixed sharp metal point on the transformer tank, for our PD-related studies. Each type of defect is implemented into 1 of the 5 identical transformer models, which had been developed in the authors' recent work. The continuous wavelet transform is applied to each related measured time-domain PD signals. This process results in an image, for each PD pulse in the time-frequency domain. Using...

    Abstract
Porous titanium and titanium alloys products are proper to use as implants which because of good properties such as high corrosion resistance, good biocompatibility, high strength to weight ratio and low elastic modulus. Porosity induces a decrease in elastic modulus and an increase of bioactivity. In present work, porous specimens of pure titanium and Ti-26Nb-1Si alloy were produced via conventional powder metallurgy route by applying low pressure. The influence of TiH2 Powder addition on some physical and mechanical properties of samples was investigated. The amount of TiH2 powder was used in the range of 0-40 weight percent. The powders were firstly mixed for 3 hours and then compacted...

    Abstract
The opto-mechanical coupling and the generation of Stokes and anti-Stokes frequencies in the in-band and intra-band regimes of operation of the Fabry-Perot cavity with a moving mirror on the basis of multi-reflection method (MRM) are described by a unique theory. The frequency characteristic function of the Fabry-Perot filter is modified. By increasing the amplitude of mirror oscillation the Fabry-Perot bandwidth increases and normal mode splitting occurred. The conversion efficiencies of the Stokes and anti-Stokes frequencies versus the mechanical amplitude of oscillation have an optimum value. Also, the delay function corresponding to the radiation pressure is obtained

    Abstract
We report a study on hydrogen storage in Ca, Co, Fe, Ni, and Pd decorated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by using two techniques: volumetric and electrochemical. The results showed that hydrogen molecules are adsorbed on the defect sites and transported to the spaces between adjacent carbon via diffusion through both defect sites and opened tips into the layers. Hydrogen storage capacity can be improved in the decorated MWCNT by Co, Fe, Ni, and Ca metals in two approaches: (i) H2 adsorption via Kubas interaction and (ii) dissociation of H2 molecules on the metal particles. The results reveal that Pd are more effective catalyst for hydrogen storage process. It was found that...
