Nonlinear Seismic Analysis of Concrete Rectangular Storage Tanks Considering Soil-Structure-Interaction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asareh, Iman (Author) ; Khalu, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Liquid storage tanks as part of the lifeline facilities play an important role in the rescuer work and drinking water supply after earthquakes. Importance of these structures demonstrates the need for investigating their dynamic behavior under dynamic loading. To assure the safety of liquid storage tanks, the dynamic response of liquid storage tanks has been studied intensively in the past. Housner proposed a widely used analytical model in which the hydrodynamic pressures are separated into impulsive and convective components. This model is mostly used for the horizontal groud motion. In this study, considering soil-structure interaction (SSI), nonlinear dynamic behavior of concrete...

Improving and Developing Value Engineering with Data Mining Approach and Application of Neural Network

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bozorgi, Mohamad (Author) ; Hajji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It has been passed more than half a century from the application of value methodology (including value analysis, value engineering, value management and value planning) to improve the project value and so far, thousands of value studies (VSs) have been performed all over the world. Because of the nature of this method, in all of data value studies, new approaches and valuable knowledge – which is called “study outcomes (OS)” in this study – are produced by specialists. However, nearly all of the new VSs as well as planning, designing or performing of new project is performed regardless of previous VS repeatable outcomes whereas presence of some previous VS members can be useful to enhance...

Nonlinear Seismic Interaction Behavior of Concrete Shear wall-Frame with Different Stiffness Ratio of Wall and Frame

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Abbas (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wall-Frame interaction under lateral load has been considered in studies, and it is concluded that interaction lateral forces of rigid frame and shear wall varies at different stories. This is resulted from of different mode shape of rigid frame and shear wall under lateral loads which are shear and bending mode, respectively. However most codes recommend a minimum strength for frame, equal to 25% of total lateral force, as an acceptance criterion of shear wall-frame dual action; otherwise this minimum strength does not fully comply with horizontal distribution of lateral load according to relative stiffness of components. The purpose of this article is to study nonlinear seismic response of...

Design and Comparison of Reinforced and Pre-Stressed Interior Span Slabs for Concrete Parking Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jabari, Farzad (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to the growth of population and the increasing number of auto-manufacturing plants in the world, governments have to find ways to decrease traffic, environmental pollution, etc. Providing parking lots is another problem with which we have to deal. It seems that designing and building multi-storey reinforced concrete parking structures is one of the ways to resolve this problem. According to complex behavior of concrete in compression and tension, it was so important to use an appropriate behavior model. In this research damage concept is used instead of crack concept which could models concrete behavior appropriately which causes acceptable results. According to uni-axial, bi-axial and...

Queueing with Inventory Models for Analysing Make-to-Order Systems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Saffari, Mohammad (Author) ; Hajji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we consider various Make-to-Order systems as a version of integrated production-inventory systems. Most Make-to-order systems can be sufficiently modeled by a queueing system with inventory in which completing each service in the queueing system requires an on-hand inventory. Unlike most researches in this field, we present an analytical approach. In all systems we embed a stochastic process with joint state space that can entirely describe the state of system. Then steady state distributions are derived. Those distributions are applied to compute performance measures and long-run average cost function which can be used for optimization. In our Make-to-Order models, demands...

    Planar Visibility Counting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alipour, Sharareh (Author) ; Zarei, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Planar visibility computing is defined as determining the region of the plane that is visible from a specific observer. This concept has many applications in computer graphics, robotic and computer games. In this thesis we consider two visibility problems: the visibility testing problem which checks the inter-visibility of two objects and the visibility counting problem which counts the number of visible objects from an observer. For these problems we propose new algorithms which have some improvements compare to the previous ones

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soltani, Hesam (Author) ; Khalu, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Concrete structures require reinforcement and retrofitting because of possible mistakes in design or calculation, inconformity between plan and implementation, change in occupancy or applied loads, and decay. Development in technology, production of materials, and new methods play important roles in development of structure construction and reinforcement methods. Emerge of new materials creates great demand in studying, surveying, and determining design characteristic and criteria for these materials. One of these materials is FRP composite which is used in concrete structure reinforcement in different ways. In this laboratory research, the effect of external wrapping by GFRP composite...

Vendor Management Inventory in a Two-echelon System with Discrete Demand

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Goldani, Sanaz (Author) ; Hajji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research , we consider a two-echelon system including one supplier , one vendor and some buyers. Every buyer has a distinct and uniform demand . The policy for ordering is (r,q) and shortage is not permitted. Buyers have no dependence on each other and every buyer orders it's demand from the vendor by itself . Hence, the vendor will be faced with discrete and different demands. Considering these assumptions, we use vendor management inventory and determine the order quantities for buyers and vendor in order to minimize the total cost of system

    Investigating Path Simplification Problems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Emadi, Ghobad (Author) ; Zarei, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A basic technique in data reduction is to approximate a collection of data by another collection of smaller size. Then, the resulted data are easier to be processed or maintained. An example of such large scale data is the ordered sequence of n points describing a path or a region boundary. We are given a sequence of points p , p , ..., p , and we consider the 1 2 n problem of approximating these points by a path with k < n line segments which error of this path is not greater than special value. Various criterions are defined to compute the path simplification error. This problem can be used in GIS, Image Processing and Computer Graphics problems. In this thesis, we consider special case...

FPGA-based Fault Injection for Evaluating the Fault Tolerance of Embedded Processors

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Abbas (Author) ; Ejlali, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One the most important issues in most of embedded systems is reliability and fault tolerance.Ensure of correct operation and evaluate reliability and fault tolerance of embedded proces-sors as a critical part of embedded systems, would be necessary. Fault injection is one themostly used methods for evaluating those features. Using FPGA devices is a good alterna-tive for time consuming simulation-based fault injection method because of their speed. But,there are some critical issues in FPGA-based fault injection methods which are controllabil-ity and observability. In addition to need for efficient and applicable observation and controlmechanism to handle fault injection experiments, a...

Evaluating and Improving the Reliability of Reversible Adiabatic Logic Styles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Akbar, Reza (Author) ; Ejlali, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Adiabatic logic families are a group of logic circuits which operate based on adiabatic principles to tremendously reduce power consumption. These families have basic difference with common logic families in transistor level structure and there signals are not quadrangular but trapezoidal. Also, in these systems the source lines and clock pulse are the same. Research on Adiabatic families needs theoretical information in reversible computing. So we will start this project with explaining fundamental information in this field. After that some of these logic families are introduced and three important and widely used of them (SCRL-RERL-2LAL) are chosen to simulate. In each of these families...

    Hodge Theory on Metric Spaces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Passbani, Hossein (Author) ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hodge theory is a beautiful synthesis of geometry, topology, and anal- ysis, which has been developed in the setting of Riemannian manifolds. On the other hand, spaces of images, which are important in the math- ematical foundations of vision and pattern recognition, do not fit this framework. This motivates us to develop a version of Hodge theory on metric spaces with a probability measure. We believe that this constitutes a step towards understanding the geometry of vision. We extend the theory of the Laplacian on domains of Euclidean space or on a manifold and next to metric space. Finally we give a beautiful application in web researcher engin.

Entanglement and Decoherence in Optomechanical Systems Coupled through Photothermal Effects

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abdi, Mehdi (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Optomechanical systems have attracted considerable attention in the last decade. Such a raising prominence is mainly due to its capability in providing new insight into the quantum behavior of macroscopic objects and exploring the interface between quantum and classical mechanics. Alongside this fundamental quest, cavity optomechanics has many other benefits, ranging from very precise measurements on forces and positions to quantum information processing. In this thesis, we investigate quantum properties of such systems. Particularly, we study cooling of the mechanical resonator toward its ground state and the entanglement between this mechanical resonator and the cavity field. Cooling the...

Improvement in Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Connections Behaviour using FRP Sheets

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rokrokian, Ali (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Performance of reinforced concrete frames is highly dependent on detailing of the joint connections between its members, such as beams and columns. To have a good structural behavior, joints must show ductile behavior and designed based on the philosophy of strong column-weak beam. In the case of sever lacking ductility, strength or even rigidity of the connections, or having a weak column-strong beam, in the existing structures, there is a need for seismic upgrading of the connection. There are several ways for seismic upgrading of this type of connections. In the last decade Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) widely has been used to strengthening the reinforced concrete (RC) members. Most of...

Computational Geometry Problems in Black Box Model

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tehranchi, Farnaz (Author) ; Zarei, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Moving data is becoming more and more important in different areas such as air traffic control, mobile communications, geographical information systems, GPS and other advanced technologies. In most cases, the path trajectory of such moving data is not known in advance. Moreover, they can change the direction and their speed of motion. Recently, a moving model, called black box model, has been proposed for such environments. In this model, there is a sequence of time stamps in which the position of each object is reported and the maximum displacement of each object in a time step is bounded by a known constant, dmax. In this thesis, we use this model to solve some computational...

Investigating Layout of Shear Walls in Tall Buildings with Non-Symmetrical Plan

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kabir, Minoo (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In tall buildings, seismic behavior depends on structural elements and their configuration. The usefulness of shear walls in the structural planning of multistory buildings has long been recognized. When walls are situated in advantageous positions in a building, they can be very efficient in resisting lateral loads originating from wind or earthquakes. Restriction in surrounding effects and the architectural design may contribute to have asymmetry in plan. In a number of papers, published mainly in the last decade, the analysis and design of shear walls has been studied. But just a few of them considered arrangement of shear walls to find the optimum layout. In the present study, analysis...

Parametric Investigation of Behavior of Moment Connections to CFST Columns

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebrahimi, Mostafa (Author) ; Khalu, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years use of concrete filled steel tube column structures has been increased due to their several advantages. In these columns the steel tube provides confinement for the concrete core of the column, so it increases axial strength and flexibility of the concrete core, and prevents spalling of the concrete. On the other hand the concrete core delays the local buckling steel tube and increases its bearing capacity. In addition, these columns have higher stiffness and strength than typical concrete columns due to placement of steel in farthest point of column cross section. The steel tube besides its structural role acts as framework for the concrete core and reduces time and cost of...
