    Abstract
In this study, the flow of a fiber filled viscoelastic matrix through planar contractions is investigated. It was found that by adding fiber to the matrix vortex, the intensity increases. Fiber orientation along "x" and "y" axes was studied too. It was found that fiber orientation could be used for determining the flow regime through the contraction geometry. The rigidity condition of fibers, which needs the trace of the orientation tensor to be unity everywhere in the domain, is correct except near walls and the reentrant corner, which is slightly less than one. In these regions, the stress magnitude is higher, which results in more numerical errors, and which further leads to some error in...

    Abstract
Monitoring large-scale networks is a critical yet challenging task. Enormous number of nodes and links, limited power, and lack of direct access to the entire network are the most important difficulties. In applications such as network routing, where all nodes need to monitor the status of the entire network, the situation is even worse. In this letter, a collaborative model in which nodes pick up information from measurements generated by other nodes is proposed. Using this model, for the first time, an upper bound is derived for the number of measurements that each node must generate, such that the expected number of measurements observed by each node is sufficient to provide a global view...

The temperature range of 180 to 200 °C was determined for the self-limited chemisorption of Fe(acac)3 on the silica surface as the first and the most important step in a single atomic cycle. Also the...

Solvent effects on the reaction rate and selectivity of synchronous heterogeneous hydrogenation of cyclohexene and acetone in ionic liquid/alcohols mixtures

    , Article Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical ; Volume 306, Issues 1–2 , July , 2009 , Pages 11–16 Khodadadi-Moghaddam, M. (Mohammad) ; Habibi-Yangjeh, A. (Aziz) ; Gholamia, M. R. (Mohamad Reza) ; Sharif University of Tecnology
    2009
    Abstract
Synchronous heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of cyclohexene and acetone, catalyzed by Pt/Al2O3, was carried out in solutions of 2-hydroxy ethylammonium formate (a room temperature ionic liquid, RTIL) with ethanol and propan-1-ol at 25 °C. Rate constants and selectivity of the reaction (relative to cyclohexene hydrogenation) increase with mole fraction of the ionic liquid (IL). The reactants tendency to the catalyst surface increases by addition of the ionic liquid and thus the reaction rate increases, especially for cyclohexene hydrogenation. Consequently the selectivity to cyclohexene hydrogenation was increased. Single-parameter correlations of log kvs.π* (dipolarity/polarizibility)...

    Abstract
Contraction flow is one of important geometries in fluid flow both in Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. In this study, flow of a viscoelastic fluid through a planar 4:1 contraction with rounded corners was investigated. Six different rounding ratios (RR =0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.375, 0.438, 0.475, 0.488) was examined using the linear PTT constitutive equation at creeping flow and isothermal condition. Then the resulting PDE set including continuity, momentum, and PTT constitutive equations were implemented to the OpenFOAM software. The results clearly show vortex deterioration with increasing rounding diameter, so that when rounding corner exceeds a critical value, the vortex disappears...

Kinetic Study of Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Catalytic Reactions in Molecular and Ionic Solvents and Their Mixtures

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Khodadadi Moghaddam, Mohammad (Author) ; Gholami, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Habibi Yangjeh, Aziz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Solvatochromic parameters (ETN: normalized polarity parameter, π*: dipolarity/polarizability, β: hydrogen-bond acceptor basicity, α: hydrogen-bond donor acidity) have been determined for binary mixtures of propan-2-ol, propan-1-ol, ethanol, methanol and water with recently synthesized ionic liquid (2-hydroxyethylammonium formate) at 25 ◦C. The applicability of nearly ideal combined binary solvent/Redlich-Kister equation was proved for the correlation of various solvatochromic parameters with solvent composition. Solute-solvent and solvent-solvent interactions were applied to interpret the results. Heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of cyclohexene, catalyzed by Pt/Al2O3, was carried out in...

    Abstract
Poisson factorization is a probabilistic model of users and items for recommendation systems, where the so-called implicit consumer data is modeled by a factorized Poisson distribution. There are many variants of Poisson factorization methods who show state-of-the-art performance on real-world recommendation tasks. However, most of them do not explicitly take into account the temporal behavior and the recurrent activities of users which is essential to recommend the right item to the right user at the right time. In this paper, we introduce Recurrent Poisson Factorization (RPF) framework that generalizes the classical PF methods by utilizing a Poisson process for modeling the implicit...

    Abstract
Polysaccharides (PSA) have taken specific position among biomaterials for advanced applications in medicine. Nevertheless, poor mechanical properties are known as the main drawback of PSA, which highlights the need for PSA modification. Nanocomposites PSA (NPSA) are a class of biomaterials widely used as biomedical platforms, but despite their importance and worldwide use, they have not been reviewed. Herein, we critically reviewed the application of NPSA by categorizing them into generic and advanced application realms. First, the application of NPSA as drug and gene delivery systems, along with their role in the field as an antibacterial platform and hemostasis agent is discussed. Then,...

Structural and intermolecular interactions of solvatochromic probes 4-nitroaniline, 4-nitroanisole, and Reichardt’s dye were investigated in the binary mixtures of 2-hydroxy ethylammonium formate as an ionic liquid with N,N-dimethyl formamide, dimethyl amine, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Solvatochromic parameters (ETN, normalized polarity parameter; π*, dipolarity/polarizability; β, hydrogen-bond acceptor basicity; α, hydrogen -bond donor acidity) were determined in ionic liquid mixtures at 25 °C using UV−vis spectroscopy. ETN parameters obtained from absorbance of Reichardt’s dye within various mixtures of ionic liquid were observed to be higher than predicted values from ideal additive...

Effect of heating profile on desorption curve in temperature programmed desorption analysis: Case study of acid sites distribution of SAPO-34

    , Article Journal of Porous Materials ; Volume 16, Issue 5 , 2009 , Pages 599-603 ; 13802224 (ISSN) Izadbakhsh, A ; Farhadi, F ; Khorasheh, F ; Yan, Z. F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Comparison of the traditional linear heating method of TPD with an original stepwise heating scheme was reported for the first time. Stepwise heating TPD was carried out by keeping the temperature constant as soon as ammonia desorption signal rises until the signal returns to the baseline. More ammonia desorption peaks on a SAPO-34 catalyst were identified using TPD with stepwise heating. The effect of temperature ramp on desorption peak broadening in TPD curve was also addressed. The more distinct ammonia desorption peaks in stepwise TPD indicates that ammonia adsorbs in about five or six different ways on SAPO-34, and attribution of different adsorptions may be explained considering some...

    Abstract
Hydrocracking is one of the most versatile petroleum refining processes for production of valuable products including gasoline, gas oil, and jet fuel. In this paper, a five-parameter continuous lumping model was used for kinetic modeling of hydrocracking of vacuum gas oil (VGO). The model parameters were estimated from industrial data obtained from a fixed bed reactor operating at an average temperature of 400°C and residence time of 0.3 h. Product distributions were obtained in terms of the weight fraction of various boiling point cuts. The model parameters were estimated using the Nelder-Mead optimization procedure and were correlated with temperature. Comparison of experimental and...

    Abstract
In this letter, we propose a method for real-time high density impulse noise suppression from images. In our method, we first apply an impulse detector to identify the corrupted pixels and then employ an innovative weighted-average filter to restore them. The filter takes the nearest neighboring interpolated image as the initial image and computes the weights according to the relative positions of the corrupted and uncorrupted pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the best existing methods in both PSNR measure and visual quality and is quite suitable for real-time applications

Kinetic modeling of pyrolysis of scrap tires

    , Article Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis ; Volume 84, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 157-164 ; 01652370 (ISSN) Mazloom, G ; Farhadi, F ; Khorasheh, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The disposal of used tires is a major environmental problem. With increasing interest on recovery of wastes, pyrolysis is considered as an alternative process for recovering some of the value in scrap tires. An accurate kinetic model is required to predict product yields during thermal or catalytic pyrolysis of scrap tires. Pyrolysis products contain a variety of hydrocarbons over a wide boiling range. A common approach for kinetic modeling of such complex systems is lumping where each lump is defined by a boiling point range. Available experimental data for thermal and catalytic pyrolysis of scrap tires from the literature were used to evaluate two types of lumping models; discrete and...
