    , Article Microporous and Mesoporous Materials ; Volume 126, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 1-7 ; 13871811 (ISSN) Izadbakhsh, A ; Farhadi, F ; Khorasheh, F ; Sahebdelfar, S ; Asadi, M ; Yan, Z. F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Low silicon content SAPO-34 was successfully synthesized using the conventional hydrothermal crystallization in the static condition. Effects of different synthesis conditions including crystallization temperature and the silicon source were investigated through X-ray diffraction patterns. It was concluded that the silicon source had a significant effect on silicon incorporation into the alumino-phosphate building blocks in the course of crystallization. Using precipitated silica instead of silica sol resulted in the formation of impurities of alumino-phosphates phases whose crystalline structures collapse at the high temperature of calcination. For the low silicon SAPO-34 synthesis, the...

    , Article AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications ; Volume 75 , 2017 , Pages 35-45 ; 14348411 (ISSN) Poormohammad, S ; Farzaneh, F
    Elsevier GmbH  2017
    Abstract
Numerous methods for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation, used in smart antennas have been already reported in previous studies. The precision of DOA estimation depends on the choice of the algorithm and the geometrical configuration of the antenna array. In this work, the performance of new geometrical configurations, i.e. 2D with equal area and 3D with equal volume including circular, square, triangular, hexagonal and star geometries, with equal number of antenna elements, are examined and compared to each other to find the most proper geometry. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to evaluate the DOA precision of the proposed arrays using the MUSIC algorithm. It is shown that in three...

Detecting matrices for random CDMA systems

    , Article 2013 20th International Conference on Telecommunications, ICT 2013 ; 2013 Sedaghat, M. A ; Bateni, F ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    IEEE Computer Society  2013
    Abstract
This paper studies detecting matrices in random dense and sparse Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems. Detecting matrices were originally introduced in the coin weighing problem. Such matrices can be used in CDMA systems in over-loaded scheme where the number of users is greater than the number of chips. We drive some conditions in the large system limit for binary and bipolar random CDMA systems to ensure that any random matrix is a detecting matrix. Furthermore, we extend our results to sparse random ternary matrices that have been using in the sparse CDMA literature. Finally, a construction method for the sparse detecting matrices is introduced

    , Article Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology ; Volume 81, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 212-220 ; 00022667 (ISSN) Pourtakdoust, S. H ; Pazooki, F ; Noushabadi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to devise a new approach to synthesize closed-loop feedback guidance law for online thrust- insensitive optimal trajectory generation utilizing neural networks. Design/methodology/approach - The proposed methodology utilizes an open- loop variational formulation that initially determines optimal launch/ ascent trajectories for various scenarios of known uncertainties in the thrust profile of typical solid propellant engines. These open-loop optimized trajectories will then provide the knowledge base needed for the subsequent training of a neural network. The trained network could eventually produce thrust-insensitive closed-loop optimal guidance laws...

Design oriented technique for mitigating position error due to shaft run-out in sinusoidal-rotor variable reluctance resolvers

    , Article IET Electric Power Applications ; 2017 , Pages 132-141 ; 17518660 (ISSN) Nasiri Gheidari, Z ; Tootoonchian, F ; Zare, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
Variable reluctance (VR) resolvers have some distinguish features over wounded rotor resolvers that make them suitable for industrial applications. Among different types of VR resolvers, sinusoidal-rotor resolvers are preferred due to simple structure and high performance under eccentricities. However, their accuracy is affected by inevitable run-out error. As they work based on sinusoidal variation of coupling area between stator and rotor and under run-out error the coupling area is impaired. Hence, in this study, a new disk shape configuration is proposed for sinusoidal-rotor resolver that is robust against run-out error. Geometrical dimensions are calculated based on optimisations to...

    , Article Journal of Constructional Steel Research ; Volume 135 , 2017 , Pages 56-68 ; 0143974X (ISSN) Pourabdollah, O ; Farahbod, F ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2017
    Abstract
In this paper the performance of light weight K-braced cold formed steel (CFS) shear panels under cyclic loading is experimentally evaluated. It is generally known that the brace-stud connection details has an important effect on the performance of the braced CFS shear panels in terms of lateral stiffness, energy dissipation, and ductility factor. In this study, four full-scale, 2.4 m × 2.4 m, braced CFS shear panels made of C-sections were tested. It was observed that proper modification of the currently utilized braced to stud connections in K-braced, CFS shear panels could enhance their performance considerably by increasing their ultimate shear resistance up to 7 folds. Furthermore,...

Multi-GNSS constellation fusion based on statistical features of positioning error

    , Article 26th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2018, 8 May 2018 through 10 May 2018 ; 2018 , Pages 725-730 ; 9781538649169 (ISBN) Abolfathi Momtaz, A ; Behnia, F ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2018
    Abstract
With the advent of new positioning services, one can reach more satellites these days to find his position. Using a combination of satellites which belong to different constellations needs some considerations like addressing biases between their time references. Each constellation has progressed to the point that they have enough satellites to provide accurate position separately. According to this fact, we propose to find the position in each constellation and fusion their results in a way that final position has the minimum possible variance instead of combining the constellations in a satellite level and dealing with inter system biases. Experimental studies are conducted based on IGS...

    , Article IEEE Communications Letters ; Volume 23, Issue 1 , 2019 , Pages 156-159 ; 10897798 (ISSN) Robat Mili, M ; Mokhtari, F ; Ashtiani, F ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2019
    Abstract
In this letter, we improve the tradeoff among the downlink (DL) rates of service providers (SPs), provided by a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique. In this respect, NOMA provides a suitable opportunity for the MVNO to share resources among SPs more efficiently. Regarding interaction among the DL rates provided for SPs we formulate our resource allocation problem as a multiobjective optimization problem (MOOP) while taking into account user fairness. By using the weighted Tchebycheff technique, we are able to solve the formulated MOOP by considering different tradeoffs among DL rates of different SPs. Our numerical results show that by...

    Abstract
This study is conducted aiming to identify the dynamics of a tapered beam, embedded by piezoelectric layer. Narrowing the tip of the beam equipped with piezoelectric patches leads to optimize the output power after excitation by the frequency sweep input. An accelerometer is installed on the beam base, which measures the acceleration that is applied to the system. Piezoelectric sensors also measure the generated voltage. The experimental test data is handled through CIFER software, using Fourier transform and Bode plot in the frequency domain, to obtain appropriate transfer functions. MATLAB is used for nonlinear simulation and validation of discrete transfer functions by a set of data that...

Kinetic studies of glucose electrocatalytic oxidation on GC/Ni electrode

    , Article International Journal of Chemical Kinetics ; Volume 44, Issue 11 , 2012 , Pages 712-721 ; 05388066 (ISSN) Danaee, I ; Jafarian, M ; Forouzandeh, F ; Gobal, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Nickel-modified glassy carbon electrode (GC/Ni) prepared by galvanostatic deposition was used for the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose in alkaline solutions where different electrochemical methods were employed. In cyclic voltammetry studies, in the presence of glucose an increase in the peak current of the oxidation of nickel hydroxide is followed by a decrease in the corresponding cathodic current. This suggests that the oxidation of glucose is being catalyzed through mediated electron transfer across the nickel hydroxide layer comprising nickel ions of various valence states. Under the chronoamperometric regime, the reaction followed a Cottrellian behavior and the diffusion...

Design and development of an effective low-cost robotic cameraman for laparoscopic surgery: RoboLens

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 18, Issue 1 B , 2011 , Pages 59-71 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Mirbagheri, A ; Farahmand, F ; Meghdari, A ; Karimian, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A robotic system was designed and developed to perform the camera handling task during laparoscopic surgery. The system employs an effective low cost mechanism, with a minimum number of actuated DOFs, enabling spherical movement around a remote centre of motion positioned at the the insertion point of the laparoscopic stem. Kinematic analysis showed a high manipulability measure for the system, with the left/right movements directly governed by rotation of the first rotary actuator, and zoom and up/down movements by the simultaneous motions of the linear and second rotary actuators. A prototype of the robot was developed for practical use in an operating room environment. Hands-free operator...

    Abstract
Plug-In hybrid electric vehicles could be connected to the electrical grid to be recharged. To ease the charging process, one solution could use an on-board charger to charge the electric vehicle battery. This charger should be able to be connected to a conventional outlet for convenience reasons and moreover, it should be a grid friendly charger in order not to pollute the electrical network. Since most of the electric vehicle related projects are at their initial phases, keeping up with the pace and developing new technologies and proposing innovations and concepts will help growing the industry. In this regard, a new integrated bidirectional isolated soft-switched plug-in hybrid electric...

    2011
    Abstract
Image based registration of rigid objects has been frequently addressed in the literature to obtain an object's motion parameters. In this paper, a new approach of joint segmentation-rigid registration, within the variational framework of the phase field approximation of the Mumford-Shah's functional, is proposed. The defined functional consists of two Mumford-Shah equations, extracting the discontinuity set of the reference and target images due to a rigid spatial transformation. Multiscale minimization of the proposed functional after finite element discretization provided a sub-pixel, robust algorithm for edge extraction as well as edge based rigid registration. The implementation...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity ; Volume 26, Issue 3 , 2016 ; 10518223 (ISSN) Kalantari, N ; Shanehsazzadeh, F ; Sarreshtedari, F ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2016
    Abstract
Characteristics of a lumped element L-C tank circuit resonator of high-Tc rf-SQUIDs, which plays an important role in the device operation, have been experimentally investigated, according to the corresponding simulations obtained by COMSOL Multiphysics. We experimentally investigated the characteristics of the resonators by measuring their scattering parameters, as well as evaluating the rf-SQUID signal. Our SQUIDs are made of sputtered YBCO thin films with 3-mm-diameter washer areas. Different configurations of the resonator are investigated, and it is observed that, by increasing the thickness of the dielectric in a specific range, the reflection coefficient (S11) increases. For the...

Optimisation of deep mixing technique by artificial neural network based on laboratory and field experiments

    Abstract
Ground improvement techniques are inevitable for weak soils that cannot endure the design load imposed by superstructures. Deep mixing technique (DMT) as one of these methods is promising and effective when a deep soil layer with low bearing capacity is encountered. Such deposits are quite common in the South-west of Iran where the studied site is located. In order to validate the influence of DMT on the enhancement of strength, both in-situ and laboratory tests were conducted. Afterwards, a parametric study was carried out to investigate the influence of key factors including cement content, water–cement ratio, curing time and plasticity index (PI) on the performance of DMT. In summary, a...

    Abstract
This study aims to optimize, design, and predict the MTMDs performance in SDOF systems using spectral analysis, and then apply their results to MDOF structures. Given the importance of spectral analysis in the design of new engineering structures, achieving a method for designing TMDs based on this theory can be of great importance for structural designers. In this study, several convenient combinations of MTMDs in an SDOF system are first considered to minimize the maximum displacement. For calculating the frequency ratios of dampers, an innovative technique is adopted in which the values of different modal responses obtained from the spectral analysis are approached together. This...

    Abstract
The product distribution of methanol to hydrocarbons conversion over SAPO-34 and ZSM-5 catalysts was studied using thermodynamic equilibrium and Anderson-Schulz-Flory (ASF) distributions. The equilibrium compositions were calculated using constrained Gibbs free energy minimization. The effect of catalyst type was considered by setting upper limits to product carbon number due to shape selectivity according to zeotype catalyst channel size; that is, n5 for SAPO-34 but n6 for aliphatic and n10 for aromatic compounds over H-ZSM-5 catalyst. The equilibrium selectivity of kinds of paraffin is negligible over SAPO-34 system while that of olefins is very small over H-ZSM-5, both in agreement...
