    , Article Communications in Statistics: Simulation and Computation ; Volume 46, Issue 6 , 2017 , Pages 4795-4811 ; 03610918 (ISSN) Moghaddam, S ; Mahlooji, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Taylor and Francis Inc  2017
    Abstract
In this article, a new algorithm for rather expensive simulation problems is presented, which consists of two phases. In the first phase, as a model-based algorithm, the simulation output is used directly in the optimization stage. In the second phase, the simulation model is replaced by a valid metamodel. In addition, a new optimization algorithm is presented. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, it is applied to the (s,S) inventory problem as well as to five test functions. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm leads to better solutions with less computational time than the corresponding metamodel-based algorithm. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

Seismic Performance of Friction Damped Bracing Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moini, Bardia (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years a large number of passive energy dissipating systems developed in accordance with pioneering work on friction dampers which was firstly reported by pall(1979). Uusing Friction dampers reduce the inelastic demand of the structure during severe earthquake motions by sliping and a large portion of input energy dissipated mechanically in friction instead of yielding the main components of the structure. Based on economical purposes, it is valuable to know in which storey and slip force should be employ the friction devices to have an optimized performance of the structure. Due to kinematic conditions of slip and stick stages, as well as transition zones between them in friction...

    , Article Journal of Constructional Steel Research ; Volume 186 , 2021 ; 0143974X (ISSN) Moghaddam, H ; Sadrara, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
There are many steel structures in Iran with semi-rigid saddle connections. It has been observed that, during a strong earthquake, this type of connection can experience a premature fracture, which will endanger the stability of the structure. The present study endeavored to improve the mechanical characteristics including the initial stiffness, yield moment, maximum moment, crack rotation, and load transfer mechanisms of the conventional saddle connections using retrofitting methods. An experimental study was conducted on six full-scale specimens to study the effect of the retrofitting methods on the stiffness, yield moment, and maximum moment of the connection and for the prevention of...

Investigation of the Nature of Earthquake Lateral Force and its Influencing Factors with Regard To Seismic Behavior of Steel Frames in Elastic and Non-Elastic Domain

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagheri, Mohammad (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the conventional design of buildings, seismic loading codes consider the base shear as an earthquake-induced load, and by distributing this base shear along the height of the structure, members are designed to withstand lateral loads (i.e. earthquake force). The most common form of earthquake force distribution is based on the response of the main mode (first mode) of the elastic structure. But this lateral distribution has two major problems. First, it does not take into account the impact of higher modes on the structural response; and second, the entry of the structure to its inelastic domain in severe earthquakes and the difference resulting from this structural behavior change in...

    2008
    Abstract
Results of the seismic performance assessment of a new structural system that has been used in a 54-story reinforced concrete building are presented. The structure, which is still under construction, and has a 'Y-shape' form, utilizes a special structural system that does not include any beams or columns. Instead, walls and slabs are used for carrying both gravitational and lateral loads. The general distinctions of the system are discussed. The structural efficiency of the system is compared with other conventional systems in some existing tall buildings. The seismic responses and dynamic behavior of the structure that were achieved by conducting various analyses are presented. The effects...

This paper presents a simulation-based study of the delay fault testing in CMOS logic circuits. A novel built-in self-test (BIST) technique is presented for detecting delay faults in this logic family. This scheme does not need test-pattern generation, and thus can be used for robust on-line testing. Simulation results for area, delay, and power overheads are presented. © 2007 IEEE

An investigation on the accuracy of pushover analysis for estimating the seismic deformation of braced steel frames

    , Article Journal of Constructional Steel Research ; Volume 62, Issue 4 , 2006 , Pages 343-351 ; 0143974X (ISSN) Moghaddam, H ; Hajirasouliha, I ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier BV  2006
    Abstract
This paper investigates the potentialities of the pushover analysis to estimate the seismic deformation demands of concentrically braced steel frames. Reliability of the pushover analysis has been verified by conducting nonlinear dynamic analysis on 5, 10 and 15 story frames subjected to 15 synthetic earthquake records representing a design spectrum. It is shown that pushover analysis with predetermined lateral load pattern provides questionable estimates of inter-story drift. To overcome this inadequacy, a simplified analytical model for seismic response prediction of concentrically braced frames is proposed. In this approach, a multistory frame is reduced to an equivalent shear-building...

Fundamentals of optimum performance-based design for dynamic excitations

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 12, Issue 4 , 2005 , Pages 368-378 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Moghaddam, H ; Hajirasouliha, I ; Sharif University of Technology
    Sharif University of Technology  2005
    Abstract
This paper presents a new method for optimization of the dynamic response of structures subjected to seismic excitation. This method is based on the concept of uniform distribution of deformation. In order to obtain the optimum distribution of structural properties, an iterative optimization procedure has been adopted. In this approach, the structural properties are modified so that inefficient material is gradually shifted from strong to weak areas of a structure, This process is continued until a state of uniform deformation is achieved. It is shown that, in general, for a MDOF structure, there exists a specific pattern for distribution of structural properties that results in an optimum...

Seismic Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Frames Retrofitted by Pre-Stressed Steel Strips

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taghizadeh, Reza (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With occurring severe earthquakes, damages of columns in RC buildings can lead to overall failure and collapse. So retrofitting of such columns that do not comply with the design requirements is necessary to prevent such phenomena. A variety of methods has been introduced so far for retrofitting. The key factors in determining the retrofitting methods are being economic and easily implemented in the design. Confining concrete columns with pre-stressed steel strips is a new technique that is simple and economic. Previous experimental experiments have shown that this method can enhance ductility and overall seismic behavior of such columns.
In the present study three and six story frames...

Behavioral characteristics of the conventional connections are specified and appropriate relations are suggested, using Stability equations of the connection...

Effect of Local Buckling on Deformation Capacity of Steel Pipe Braces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sedehi, Omid (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, finite element (FE) models were developed to study hysteresis behavior of pipe braces subjected to cyclic loading. Thus steel braces previously tested by other investigators are used. The results of the analysis are in good agreement with the experiments. Besides, the FE analysis could also simulate both the overall and local buckling. As a result, a sharp growth in plastic strains is followed by geometric changes at the mid-span due to local buckling. The sharp growth of plastic strains is entitled as strain rises. In fact, the local buckling triggers rupture of braces at the mid-span. The local buckling initiation is identified by the sharp growth in plastic strains....

Modeling of platinum extraction from used reforming catalyst in iodine solutions

    , Article ECS Transactions ; Volume 41, Issue 17 , 2012 , Pages 45-51 ; 19385862 (ISSN) ; 9781607683070 (ISBN) Moghaddam, H. R ; Baghallha, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Platinum extraction from spent reforming catalysts in iodine solutions under atmospheric pressure and at temperatures up to 95°C was previously investigated in our group. In this system, platinum is oxidized from the spent catalyst with tri-iodide. In some of the experiments, it was observed that platinum extraction peaked and then decreased. This indicates that a precipitation reaction slowly occurs that removes the dissolved Pt ions from the solution. Power-law rate equation for the Pt extraction to PtI6 2- and the precipitation of the dissolved platinum to PtI 4(s) was implemented to model the experimental Pt extraction data. The activation energies for the platinum dissolution reaction...

Investigating Starin Growth in Concentric Braces and Specify the Start Time of Failure in Section

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hayatbini, Kourosh (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this Thesis, the behaviour of stell brace was studied in finite element models. In this section, a comparison between the results of these models and the results of experimental models which were done in past years, was carried out. It shows that these result is in good agreement with each other, Moreover it has been found that the primary cause of failure in the sample is local bucking and then change in the geometry of sample which will be followed by strain jumping in next cycles which shows the importance of local buckling due to the proximity of this event to strain jumps and can be accepted as braces limit state design. Finally, we try to predict the time of failure of samples with...

    Abstract
The site-selectivity and regioselectivity of Diels-Alder reactions of allenyl aryl ethers with cyclopentadiene and acrolein were studied. While cyclopentadiene (as an electron-rich diene) only reacted with the external double bond of allenyl aryl ethers to provide the site-selective normal electron demand Diels-Alder cycloadducts, acrolein (as an electron-deficient diene) reacted with the C1-C2 π bond of allenyl aryl ethers to provide the site- and regioselective hetero-Diels-Alder cycloadducts as exclusive products

Evaluation of Strength Loss due to Diagonal Crack and Parameters Affecting it in Masonry Infill Walls

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alinejad, Nasrollah (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Masonry infills are vastly used as surrounding walls and partitions. Presence of infill in a building causes some change in strength, stiffness, period and generally seismic behavior of the structure.Mainly there are 5 modes of failure including 1- interface cracking 2- sliding along bed joint 3- diagonal cracking 4- corner crushing and 5- ultimate failure. According to these failures, three stages of strength as shear strength, corner strength and ultimate strength can be defined.Diagonal crack can be calculated by slip surface method grown in Sharif university of Technology. Based on this method the strength of infill wall falls down as the cohesive strength of mortar loses and so the slip...
