    Elastic Field of an Anticrack Via Reproducing Kernel Particle Method

    Abstract
    Meshless Methods using kernel approximation like Reproducing Kernel Particle Method (RKPM) are methods for solving partial differential equations that require only nodal data and a description of the geometry without requiring element connectivity data and mesh producing. An innovative method of nonplanar material partitioning method (NMPM) with implementation of RKPM is employed to calculate the stress intensity factor (SIF) at the tip of an anticrack sited in an isotropic plate under a remote applied loading. Numerical examples in comparison with the exact closed form expressions show that accurate SIF for mode I can be obtained.

     

    Studying Edge Dislocations and Wedge Disclinations in Core-Shell Nanowires by Incorporating Surface Effect

    Abstract
    By considering the effect of surface/interface stresses, classical problems of the interaction between dislocations/disclinations and nanowires are addressed. In particular, two distinct problems are solved: the first one consists of an edge dislocation seated inside the shell of a core-shell nanowire and the second one investigates a wedge disclination (dipole) located inside the shell of a core-shell nanowire. The stress field of the nanowire, strain energy per unit length and the image forces acting on the defects are calculated and discussed in detail. The effect of electric capacitors and mechanical imperfections on the electro-mechanical fields associated with an anisotropic piezoelectric matrix containing a cylindrical inhomogeneity made of a different anisotropic piezoelectric material is of interest.     For half a century, the problem of extracting the components of the nonlocal moduli tensor of anisotropic materials has been remained unsolved. In the present work, for the first time, the solution of this problem is proposed and the components of nonlocal moduli tensor are obtained for close-packed crystals, i.e. face center cubic or hexagonal closed packed.     Vertical Forced Vibration of a Rigid Disk in a Transversely Isotropic Full-Space

    Abstract
    This research is concerned with the investigation of forced time–harmonic vertical vibration of a rigid disk embedded in a transversely isotropic full space medium. By properties of integral transform methods, the generalized mixed boundary–value problem is formulated as a set of dual integral equations, which in turn, are reduced to a Fredholm equation of the second kind. The obtained Fredholm integral equation is solved by well-known numerical methods. Selected results for the load distribution on the disk and complex compliance are presented for various ranges of frequency.

    In this thesis, pull-in of nano/micromirrors under effects of capillary, Casimir and van der Waals (vdW) forces is investigated based on two models. In the first model, only rotation of torsional beams of mirror is considered. In the second model, effect of bending of the torsional beams is also considered. The static behavior of the mirror under capillary, Casimir and vdW loading are also studied using these models. Results show that neglecting bending effect, can lead to considerable overestimation in predicting the pull-in limits of the nano/micromirrors under these forces.     The elastic behavior of an edge dislocation, which is positioned outside of a nanoscale elliptical inhomogeneity, is studied within the interface elasticity approach incorporating the elastic moduli and surface tension of the interface. The complex potential function method is used. The dislocation stress field and the image force acting on the dislocation are found and analyzed in detail.
